Welcome to my new French Essence… to say that I am excited to show you would be an understatement. It has been months of planning to arrive at what I feel is a true reflection of me and all that French Essence is about. I have changed my mind a million times about fonts, about colours, about images… and about the look that will reflect my love for all things French…
I want to celebrate and I want to say thank you to all my readers for giving me the enthusiasm and energy to create this blog… without your encouragement, thoughtfulness and generosity French Essence would not exist… I still cannot believe that a blog can be ‘what we do’ and can also define in some ways, ‘who we are’… French Essence has enhanced my day to day life immeasurably. It has allowed me to be creative, to be inquisitive, it has opened doors in far away places and it has enriched my friendships around the world. I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate to write French Essence and to connect with you on a daily basis…

love the blog, and always mean to write when you ask for suggestions — re fragrance, makeup etc. French Lover by Fredric Malle is my latest fragrance love — I didn’t realise at first that it was intended as a male fragrance…. I just loved wearing the scent of a French lover.
We are currently on our third long stay in France, and each time have followed many of your suggestions of place to go, things to see. This time we have our 88 yr old aunt with us. She tells us it is 65 years since she has been in Paris! She is beside herself with the French experience, and the sights of Paris, and a new look French Essence treasure would be the icing on the gateau.

I came across your blog through another blog and no small surprise when I saw I stumbled upon the author of My French Life. I’ll explain- I lived in Chicago until 2009 when I left to follow a French man to France. In 2007 I believe, I bought your book at the Anthropologie store, one of my favorites in Chicago. I read it with much admiration and started dreaming and envisioning my life in France. We are not in Provence (can’t wait to visit it this summer), but your book prepared me for my french life! Love the brocantes as well and oh how I love monogrammed linens!

Vicki – it’s a chilly Wednesday morning in Sydney and I logged in with the hope that the new new look would be up and running and voila! What a surprise. I wasn’t expecting anything so modern and streamlined but I like it. Phew, now I can exhale a sigh of relief and look forward to many more posts to satisfy my Francophile leanings. As I head into winter I will be looking forward to hearing about another warm sunny Provence summer.

I am your new subscriber and reading your blog is my new hobby. The first thing I do after get home from work is reading your blog and I have a lot to catch up since I want to read all of them from the very beginning. I visited Paris in 2007 though only for few days, ever since I became obsessed and dream that one day I would be living there. Most of my friend didn’t understand why I am so obsessed with Paris; my only explanation is there is something magical about the city that makes me keep thinking about it. I am pretty sure the other part of the country as nice and attracting as Paris.

I love the new look of your blog! I love to visit with you each morning with my coffee, it is a special way to start each day for me. I have both of your books on my coffee table and look at them often. In fact you have been the one to give me my love of French linen sheets. I have them as curtains, on my table and of course on my bed. I bought of very beautiful old one from Karin at La Pouyette and it is always on my table. I just bought linen duvet covers last summer and I am converted! they are so comfortable in our hot summer weather. I also planted some potted herbs outside my dining room window based on a photo from a tour of your garden. The rosemary keeps dieing, but one day I might have a nice little topiary to flank the basil.

Why has it taken me so very long to find your wonderful articles, Vicki? I simply don’t know, but you’ve given me a wonderful Sunday “catching up” on missed articles. I’m sitting in the garden doing just that right now, enjoying the balmy late afternoon, and an amazing view of Mont Blanc whilst sipping chilled Pouilly Fumé. I’ve spent all my adult life as a Brit in France, and it is simply magical to have stumbled across you today! It’s like having a new friend who shares a passion for this sometimes exasperating, but always beautiful country, as well as a passion for an armoir filled with antique white linen; since you are living in Provence, I guess yours too always smells of lavender!! I only have a few lavender plants in my handkerchief-sized garden with which to make my own dried sprigs to tuck into my linen, but I never fail to add a few drops of huile essentielle de lavande to the water in my steam iron: it works wonders!! Can anything beat a lavender scented pillowslip to ensure a good night’s sleep? I doubt it!! Bisous, et mille fois merci!, Jenny
