Mas de l'Amarine... in the countryside of Saint Rémy de Provence...
I have driven past Mas de l’Amarine more times than I can remember and I have always admired the location and the farmhouse. Now it is under the direction of Alice and Bernard who have bought it back to life, created an extraordinary ambience and a most fabulous small hotel and restaurant… Formerly the home of artist Roger Bezombes… his colourful legacy lives on in Alice and Bernard’s capable and loving hands…
I had one of the most delicious dinners on Wednesday night… Sitting outside in the garden, with a view of the Alpilles… I managed to eat my way towards heaven… I started with a vegetable ‘tarte‘… the name does not do justice to the variety of grilled market vegetables, slightly caramelised and sitting on a fine parmesan crust. The tarte was accompanied by a spicy rocket salad straight from the garden… the combination of flavours and textures was sublime.. For the main course I chose the daurade, a light, a white fish that was grilled to perfection and served with petit pois and wafer slices of crisp chorizo… Unbelievably good… the flavours were remarkable together and each bite was the ideal compliment to the next…
And for the desserts… we shared ‘ le metre‘… Literally, a metre long tray with a selection of the most sublime ice-creams and sorbets… caramel, mint, ‘garrigue’, (wild rosemary from the Alpilles), raspberry, chocolate and coffee… all interspersed with fresh fruits and caneles… Canele… those small French pastries that are filled with a soft custard and encased in a thick caramelised crust… for me, they are impossible to resist…
If you are planning a visit to Provence Mas de l’Amarine is one for your notebook…

A very Good Morning to you
Mas de l’Amarine sounds like a most memorable place and I have jotted it down in my notebook.
The desert sounds very special indeed.
Have a glorious weekend

The ood sounds and probably tastes divine. After looking at map to try to find St.Remy how does one ge there besides rent a car in St Raphael or nice. Kristen who writes French Word A Day lives in the hinterlands away from civilization. i guess its like living in Chicago and driving to Souh Dakota. your photos are spot on.
The alternative is to fly into Marseille and rent a car or take the fast train from Paris to Avignon and rent a car… xv
We are coming from Los Angeles, California to Provence in July for our second year. Looking forward to eating dinner at Mas de l’Amarine! I have been keeping a notebook of all your tips.
That meals sounds too good to be true…but then you told me where I can get it!

hmmm making me hungry + I adore the photo of the woman driving the tractor. Have a grand weekend. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
what a cute photo
Oh, summer food eaten outside with a beautiful view. I’m envious!
I bought some fresh cherries at the market the other day and ate them standing on my porch looking at the late evening sun turn to summer thunderstorm. Perfect.
Dessert is my favorite meal of the day and your description of this one sounded fabulous! I will put this on my list of places for my next trip to France.
Have a wonderful weekend, Elizabeth
So Mas de l’Amarine is where one goes looking for pretty girls traveling on red tractors?!
Malheureusement, St Remy is a bit far from Nice, and there may not be enough time to drive up this time, but I will keep the name in mind. Off to Paris in a few hours. Then Nice, at the end of next week. A bientot, Vicki. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Sounds just fabulous….wish I was there!
thanks Vicki, now I am starving for dorade with incredibly thin slices of chorizo
bon journée et bon weekend!

Mas de l’Amarine sound like my idea of heaven. The website is wonderful a perfect marriage of art and food in cinematic presentation. They must be cinephiles as I detect inspration from Peter Greenaways The Cook, the Thief…,Belle Du Jour and a hint of Almodovar perhaps….
Le metre sounds divine. I have been working on some summer ice creams and sorbets and this sounds like a great way to present them although I dare not try to make a canele as I hear they are very tricky to perfect.
Vicki, I would love to send you your giveaway prize to an address of your choice so if you would like to drop me a line to magicalmrpaul@gmail.com I shall post it off to wherever you choose.

Dear Paul,
Well done for the inspiration: Peter Greenawys!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vicki, you’ve definitely made me hungry – for vegetable tart and for Provence. Hope you enjoy a delicious weekend! XO
The great food, throw in ambiance, a heavenly location…a meal fits for the gods in their heavens…:) Thanks Vicki, if I can’t be there, I’ll live vicariously through your wonderful blog.
I think that you made everyone hungry with that post!
I like your blog, the way it represents all the “cliché” of France.
But it’s great, it’s show the wonderful side of my dear country.
I understand why US and UK think the provence is the heaven, sun, “gastronomie”, pretty girl and boy, seems like protected to the outside world etc….
Have a nice day,
Pierre (a french guy =P)
“Le metre…..”…..how have I never seen this anywhere, I am clearly not going to the right restaurants
Your dinner sounds heavenly
Have a great week-end! Xx
Oh…I so need a vacation in the South of France.
Better yet, I need to retire to the South of France!
Hi Vicki, Greetings from California. Love you blog and read every post you send. I stayed at Mas de l’Amarine with my two sons for vacation. It is a such a beautiful Villa and Alice is the most perfect host. We did not have dinner there, but had breakfast and it was perfect. I recommend if anyone is in the area to stay there. The rooms are beautiful and clean and it is such a peaceful and restful place to stay. Thanks for posting this today. Teresa Jordan
You had me at ‘…….sitting outside in the garden.’ If I was to do that here at the moment it would be wrapped inside an Everest campaign quality sleeping bag, Uggs & an industrial heater blowing straight at me! Very tres un-chic. Am I jealous? You bet I am!!!
Millie xx
That sounds positively divine…the dessert must have been heaven as well!!
