Funny how thoughts can cross our minds at the same time as our friends or in this case my daughter…
Yesterday as I was leaving Paris to take the train to London for the weekend I picked up a YSL Touche Eclat at the Duty Free… This is one product I always have with me… even if I wear no other make-up I do use this magic wand religiously…
Last night as I was having dinner with my daughter… the boys are away … we were chatting non-stop about all that female palaver that would most likely bore them silly… you know the drill… ‘Do you think I have gained weight after my holiday?’… ‘What do you think of these new jeans… does my behind look ok in them?’… All that kind of girly talk that goes around and around in circles… but nevertheless… talk that we girls thrive on… She tells me how pleased she is that she managed to pick up a new YSL Touch Eclat at the airport on her way back from a trip… (you are right in thinking that this family never sits still…) I laughed and told her, ‘great minds think alike’ … and we both agreed that it is our number one go-to…
Our conversation brought back some memories of a trip to Paris many years ago… I was walking around Le Bon Marché... dreamily… admiring everything in my line of vision… I think it may have even been the first time I had visited the store… I remember thinking how gorgeous the cosmetic department was with it’s fitted counters designed to look like feminine dressing tables. As I passed the YSL section, a very charming woman invited me to have my make-up done. Can I just say that I never say ‘yes’ to these approaches from beauty consultants… the idea of being made-up in the store has never been my idea of joy… (this fear might stem from my first ever job.. which was doing exactly that… giving make-overs in department stores… but that is another story altogether…) but for whatever reason, this particular evening I said ‘yes’. I am sure I was seduced by the glamour of Le Bon Marché, the consultant’s beautiful French accent and the fact that I was in Paris… a heady mix.
She was brilliant… I looked like me afterwards, only better… She applied that French less-is-more approach to make-up that works so well for me. She went strong on the lips and lighter on the eyes… I loved it… The most important thing she taught me… and I still follow her advice to this day… was how to apply the Touche Eclat… Not just under the eyes as a dark circle concealer, but above and below the lips… and above the eyebrows… in her opinion, these were the most important places to highlight… She generously coated above my lip line and then drew another line below, blending carefully as she went… She also applied the Touche Eclat after the foundation… in my case, tinted moisturiser… Her light, feather strokes so artfully applied made all the difference…
These days the Touche Eclat is always in my bag (and my daughter’s)… How do you Touche Eclat? xv
If it’s not in your make make-up bag already… You can find YSL Touche Eclat here…

Ooh, I’m a fellow fan, Vicki! Love this post. And thanks for those fabulous tips – I’d never thought to do that. You are a gem. J x
I’m a fan too! Useful tips especially the above and below the lips – must try! Thanks.

Yes I agree, it is really fab!

I must DASH over to your link to find this magic wand; my once glowing skin has taken on a blotchy look due to what the doctor says, “OLD AGE!” So thank you for the TIP MY DEAR!!!!!!!
Happy day, Anita
This was the one thing my friend asked me to pick up in the Paris duty-free shop a few years ago, never was too clear what is was but if it involves some magic I will be finding out…….soon. XO
My favorite as well and in addition to your tips, you can also apply it to the “crevices” on either side of your nose which are frequently a tad red. If I am feeling particularly tired, I will layer Clé de Peau’s concealer over the Touche Eclat under my eyes – a fabulously effective combination!
I enjoyed this post, Vicki. I just bookmarked the page and will try this product. I am a less is more person. Never have I liked to see women looking unlike their true self.
Glad that you and your daughter were lucky enough to have mother daughter time. This time for me is so precious too.
Happy weekend.

Well I for one am racing over to Saks and purchasing some for myself! It sounds wonderful! I have something similar but I have a feeling this will be the magic I need! ha ha! I certainly hope so because I look horrid these days! Or should I say….old! No matter, I’m trying it out! Will let you know how it goes! Thanks so much for the great tips!
Thanks for the tip, VA + love YSL. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
I have to go scour the make-up departments here, today !
I have such a hard time finding things I like, we are not allowed to touch, test or even sniff the products here. And someone else with a clumsy heavy hand wants to apply things to your face .. I look forward to my NYC make up departments again.
Meanwhile, I need this now. besitos, C
The best ever product!!
Both my daughters and daughter in law use it religiously, tried others none can beat it.

I cannot live without my YSL Touche Eclat either. I use Number 2 in the summer, lighter in winter. It is fabulous.
I love this post, it is beautiful.
Thank you.
I love the photo. I don’t know who the model is, but she’s stunning!
Touche Eclat sounds like a multi-tasker which can be used as a highlighter as well as concealer.
I plan to purchase this at Sephora, so I can return it if necessary.
Vicki dear! YOU are fabulous. Your kind comment made me giggle…..I like to PLAY and have FUN and there you have it! AND….I read even more about how French women highlight their lips more than eyes or cheeks. HERE! HERE! I have been wearing my maquillage in this way for years and it suits me just fine! Now to get some touch éclat and apply it above and below the lip line, I will be set!!!!!
Have a magnificent evening wherever you are dear….Anita
Love Bon Marche and already converted by your previous posts to touché éclat . A great face lift.
So sorry for a second comment…However…I really DID run out to Saks tonight before dinner and lo and behold…the YSL lady began a makeover on me just as you said! I almost got tickled because I NEVER let them do that but she didn’t even ask! My sweet husband stood off to the side just staring! But… I love the product and think it will be something I use forever! So glad for the tip but just wanted you to know that even in Birmingham , Alabama…in Saks Fifth Avenue department store they too begin to apply this exactly as you described!!! Under the eye…the sides of the nose…above the lip…etc….I found myself wanting to tell her all about your blog and how you are an incredible French author, etc…Actually…I did tell her! It was all surreal but quite fun! Have a wonderful Sunday!
Amazing, Carolyn… I love that you went to Saks and had the YSL make-over… how fun… I am sure you will love your Touche Eclat… I marvel at the connections we can all make through the internet… incredible! xv
You and me both, dear Vicki! Years behind (and in front) of the cosmetics counter have taught me some wonderful tricks…
))
I love this one…makes a huge difference, doesn’t it?
And let me attest that gorgeous Anita does not need a stitch of makeup! That woman is RADIANT!
Have a wonderful week…

I’ve not tried it but with such a glowing recommendation it’s now on my “to buy” list!
Thanks
Thanks for a fabulous post and great tips…never thought about above and below the lips…but also like you tend to avoid make-overs at the make up counters. Thanks!
I love the shade of lipstick on this model, Vicki. I don’t gravitate towards wearing red lippie often, but this blue-red colour is the one I’d choose. Thank you for Parisian tips on where to apply the Touche Eclat!
I also love it…have not been using it for long and can’t believe what I did before. It’s amazing. I also love blending a little down the bridge of my nose. x
Dear Vicki,
I want to hear the story about your first job…. You have such a way with words.
I don’t wear much makeup – mostly nothing at all, but I’m starting to think it might be time to learn.
Best wishes for a happy weekend with your girls.
Oh my gosh…I’m sold!! Having gained my fair share of lines and dark circles, I could use a little boost. I’m ordering TODAY!
And, yes…the Le Bon Marche enthralled me when I was in Paris two summers ago. One could get lost in there for hours!
Bon weekend!!
xoxo Elizabeth
I don’t use the YSL, but, may have to try it. I bought a less expensive version at Sephora and once read that you must apply under the eyes, over the eyes, under the brows and above the brows, which is what I do daily. It definitely reflects the light and can make one look…fresher…just what I need on a Monday morning for work!! Touche!
)
I canNOT believe you are writing about this product now!As I have just purchased their lipstain which I adore!Went and bought another and they gave me a sample of that magic wand you just mentioned and I was so curious about it!It has been on “my to do” list now for about a week!I will definately purchase now!Love your tips!!!!!How divine to have a daughter………….
Today I went straight to the makeup counter to find this product. After the application, I fell in love with it. Vicki I can’t wait for your next entry. They make my day!
I have promised myself to become more feminine as I wind down my construction project . I can’t wait to try this Vicki
I loved this post for so many reasons. My daughter and I have similar girlie chats which are very special. Often feel for friends who only have boys. Also have wonderful memories of the glamorous women in the cosmetic department of Le Bonne Marche !!
I will be rushing off to look for YSL Touche Eclat … invaluable for those little imperfections I am constantly trying to cover. Have tried other similar products but they never quite do the job.
If you love Touche Eclat, you MUST get the new foundation Le Teint Touche Eclat – sublime rays on lightness on all your face, works well with Touche Eclat, another genius and sure to be cult product. I got this foundation 2 days ago. Less is definitely more.
