A Perfect Event… Postcards from Provence… And a New E-Magazine…

One of my, ‘Postcards from Provence’…

Sometimes a meeting is meant to be.

That is how I felt when I met Debi from A Perfect Event at the flea market in Avignon a few weeks ago…. the same day as I saw the very beautiful Inès de la Fressange strolling about…  I didn’t know much about Debi or her work before our meeting but I could tell from our emails that we had plenty in common… a love of all things French can do that for you… It is quite something the way a blog and a passion can connect you with like minded individuals all over the world… Debi lives in Chicago where she runs A Perfect Event.. a business that does create that perfect event… She is adorable, highly energetic and totally enthusiastic about France.

Debi has just launched a new e-magazine and I thought you might like to see it… She told me all about her vision for this project… a format where a love of entertaining and fabulous style can be showcased together…  She generously invited me to contribute and so I put together some of my favourite pictures… entitled, Postcards from Provence. There is a peak into fellow blogger Corey Amaro’s gorgeous French home… stunning and totally inspiring… the images make me want to start over and re-arrange everything… and there are so many evocative images of Paris…

Rather than me spoiling the fun… ( it’s much more fun to discover what is in a magazine than have the surprise ruined… don’t you think?) Take a look… xv

  1. It looks like Debi will have a great success on her hands with this new e-zine–what a stunning debut issue!

And your photos made me dream about Provence…and I live here! ;)

  2. What a fabulous magazine and I love your contributions Vicki. I had no idea you could buy vanilla at the market in Arles. The whole garlic pods on the plate stand looked so pretty on your table too.

Yet another great idea from you. Merci.
    Sam

    Hi Vicki

It’s a great magazine you are writing about. I asked Debi if I can buy it through her, because the magazine will probably not be sold here in Norway.
Thank you for your very kind comment on my blog!
    Have a great day!

    Love from Lene

  4. What beautiful and romantic pictures you have in Debi’s Emagazine. From your table setting, to your apple centerpiece, to your collection of vintage linen …. and I love that accordeon vase …. I hove the exact same one I purchased couple of years ago from France. I love it but it is such a hassle to clean the little vases.
Debi’d emagazine looks very elegant, refined and so inspiring.

The e-mag is stunning. I want to hold a paper copy in my hands. Your article was lovely, and the photographs familiar but selected so beautifully for the issue. I also liked the article on vacation photos. I am definitely getting Debi’s book. You ladies made my day!! Merci!

  10. Sounds fantastic. Looking forward to checking it out. Don’t you just love those serendipitous meetings? XO

sounds like a MUST READ! Summer is winding down and back to VA. in two weeks. Why does our time in France—every year—always go so quickly? Vicki, if you send me — via email—your PO # I will post a card…maybe an antique one—from Beaune! a bientot, Patty

OMG I can’t wait to look at these links but it is nearing noon here in the NY area and I have lots of work to do and a deadline!!! However I have two quick things to say.

The first is that a few years ago House and Garden (US) which was headed by the immensely talented and beautiful Dominique Browning and is no longer published (why? it was excellent) featured a Paris apartment owned by a couple named Chabut. It is exuberant, magnificent in detail and a wonder of color: plums, purples, golds, blacks, blues, reds, a coordinated mastery of design. I sent my ghost to live there.

As to entertainment, I once found the most gracious book I’ve ever read about entertaining called The Pleasure of Your Company. The author describes parties and the art of entertaining with such grace and elegance, something that is not addressed as thoroughly these days in party planning. Just my opinion, but a return to more civility which I feel the Europeans still embrace will do the world much good.

  13. Hallie says:

Woops: the full title of that book: the Pleasure of Your Company Entertaining in High Style. I do not know the former editor of House and Garden nor do I know the editor of this book. I mention them because they have impressed me with their work.

I love reading French Essence every day, it is classy, sophisticated, imaginative and one of the very best blogs of all things French – the e magazine is very nice but I am a dedicated F.E. fan and there I will stay….

    Vicki,
Your piece in the magazine is SO beautiful. Did you take those photos yourself? Your style is so inspiring to me. I am an absolute fan – read your blog and pour endlessly over your beautiful books. Hope a third book is on the way soon? Thank you so much for all your inspiration!
