Their exhibition at the Maison & Objet was as beautiful as you can imagine… with stand out pieces by John Derian, the New York artist who hand makes the highly desirable decoupage plates, platters, bowls, paperweights and coasters.
Derian and Astier de Villatte have been collaborating together for some time now and the collections only get better and better… The painted china is a break away from the traditional all white that Astier de Villatte is so well known for and John Derian’s quest for fabulous imagery has made these pieces so unique and so collectable.
I can’t remember a time in Paris without a trip to the rue Saint Honoré and a browse in Astier de Villatte… I don’t always buy something… I often browse.
The china… the plain, the painted and the marbleized pieces of Derian… the decoupage… Especially the hand lettered styles and the botanicals… they are stunning… on a table or even grouped as a scene on a wall.
The diaries… I can’t live without mine… it’s not a hi-tech system that is for sure… but I have grown accustomed to these beautiful hand printed agendas from Astier de Villatte… and besides it is a very good excuse for a visit.
Do you still write down your appointments… or are you way beyond a pen and paper? xv
