The summer came and went in a blur… I loved the timeless quality to those months of languid heat and lazy days.
I thought of you often… as we share our stories, converse together and get to know each other.
Each weekend during the summer… I went shopping, at my local brocante, in search of something that I could give to you… that would say, ‘French Essence’…

Something French, something that resonates with me and something that would please and excite you… I have put together a collection of vintage nightdresses…
I have found six that I love and six that I wish to give to you… Each one is different and each one is pretty in a different way…
I wear them to sleep in… but they are lovely to look at…folded in a drawer or hanging in a cupboard…

Together with these chemises, I found several beautiful laces and braids for you… pieces to work with or simply to admire… to thank you for being you and being here…
Here is what to do… Leave me a comment, subscribe to French Essence (you will receive an email that must be verified for the subscription to be active) and ‘like’ French Essence on Facebook… I just need to know you are there…
Please share the news… Facebook or Twitter… that’s all… those who are already subscribers will be automatically entered. I will announce the winers next week… xv

Greetings Vicki: I so enjoy your blog, and share the link often with friends and acquaintances.
A few years ago I was fortunate to receive a lovely vintage nightdress from Cannes, and it was suggested that it could be worn over jeans with a belt…
Cheers,
Stephanie
Bonjour French Essence! Already liked your Facebook page from way back and now I’ve subscribed via email. I love all your posts! Is this contest open worldwide? Hope to win one! xxoo
Everywhere and anywhere i will post… it is only fun if everyone can play…
Good morning Vicki. I shared this on my Facebook page, hope it brings your more subscribers! What a wonderful giveaway! Reminds me of a shop, Cherchez, in Manhattan I loved when I lived there. Don’t know if it still exists, but I love antique linens of all kinds. Happy New Week!
What a beautiful and generous giveaway. I would be thrilled to win one of your lovely nightdresses or, indeed, the wonderful lace pieces to incorporate into something for my home as a reminder – all the boxes have been ticked for sometime now.
Have a wonderful week Vicki and, once again, thanks for this opportunity…
Jo xx

Hi Vicki:
I’m a subscriber and I just liked you on Facebook!
Would love to be chosen for this giveaway! Don’t know what “we’d” do without our Frence Essence fix!
Hello Vicki
Your discerning eye found such treasures. How kind and generous of you to offer these to your readers.
Wishing you a week full of joy and may your goodness be returned to you.
Helen xx
I have been following you for awhile, but I just subscribed to your lovely blog!
Just wanted to say that I loved the beautiful sepia photos and creative layout for the post! Happy Monday!
What a lovely thing for you to do. You are a very generous and thoughtful lady! I can only hope and dream that I will be a lucky recipient of one of your choice chemises.
Because of you and your ‘Beauty as Therapy’ article … today I chose something a little more special to wear in my art studio … I bought a lovely peasant style three quarter sleeve blouse with vintage lace overlay top thingy. I bought it at the l”Isle sur la Sorgue markets back in April (never worn it) and along with my newly painted nails I wore my moonstone ring bought in Annecy (never worn since I returned) … and began a new painting.
My husband thought I looked lovely and even my son said I looked pretty … so from me to you … thank you. Even though we are getting older we don’t need to be invisible.
Vicki,
Your “finds” look fabulous. I’m already a happy subscriber! I’ll ‘like’ you on facebook.

Bonjour Vicki!
I see I am here with Caramel et Fleur de Sel who always beats me!
What can I say but that lace, brocante, all things French just move me and my imagination. I will never forget my carefree days of ambling the streets of Nice and finding treasures at the open air market.
Wishing you a fabulous day out in France, AND I love your collages!
Amitiés, Anita
How lovely to be able to sleep in something soooo beautiful. The forecast for our Aussie summer is hot hot hot so to enjoy sleeping in one of these chemises would be a real treat.
What fun .. giving is the most fun kind of shopping … I collect lace. I follow you on Twitter, so I see it all there. And on Pinterest. What a generous gift to your readers. Good luck.
I have been a reader for awhile but will subscribe today. I would love to receive such a lovely item in the mail. The chemises are beautiful and so French. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
These nighties and the laces are simply magnificent! Many eons ago I had a lovely white linen French nighty; when it was worn beyond lovely I took it apart and used the fabric for sachets and decorated them with the lace from the yoke of the nighty. How I would love to be a winner today of yet another beautiful nighty.
I read your newsletter every day and follow you on Facebook as well
Soooo lovely…..
They’re beautiful, Vicki. What a dream to sleep in those lovely things.
Thank you for offering this giveaway, I would hang a beautiful dressing gown in my guest room. I love to read your posts. I especially like when you tell us the contents of your carry on luggage when you get ready to travel. I often print out the suggestions and use them when I am trying to pack. I also love when you give us glimpses of other women in your travels. To see how they dress and carry themselves throughout their day is insightful. I also love when you let us see your gardens during the different seasons. I am looking forward to seeing what you are going to do for the Fall in preparation for “The Winter.” I have also booked some time at a spa for next weekend to take some “Thereapy” time for myself. I don’t comment much but I am always reading. Thank you again for the quality time you take out of your days to prepare these posts that give us such inspiration to live better lives with a little bit of “Frenchness added to them.
Vicki, I love hearing from you, it’s a great escape. I have shared French Essence with my daughter and she loves it also.
C’est Bon.

I’m already a devoted subscriber and now follow you on Facebook:) I can never get enough of French Essence inspiration. Thank you for the generous giveaway, it’s just way too gorgeous…
Great post. Love your blog!
Hello Vicki. I could certainly use some linen and lace – especially from a French brocante. This summer I had surgery for a spontaneous epidural hematoma, but after many weeks of rehab am able to experience and enjoy this wonderful life again. I ‘fell’ out of the blogging world for the duration, but am back now and will hopefully begin posting more regularly. Your blog is one of the things I enjoyed reading during my recovery. So bright, encouraging and filling me with the desire to travel and live more fully. Am currently working on a Mercato Italiano in conjunction with the Societa’ Dante Alighieri here in Coral Gables. Should be fun.
A presto, Lisa
Read your website first thing every morning and always find inspiration. Great giveaway – crossing my fingers!

Vicki, thanks for brightening my days with French Essence. It’s the first thing I look for in my email. Ooh, very delicate and beautiful. I’ve liked and subscribed
Lovely photos and I adore linens. Years ago i found a terrific little book at the Frick museum gift shop, entitled “The Linen Closet, how to care for your fine linens and lace. (by Michele Clise). Well there isn’t a problem or issue that isn’t covered in this delightful and immensely helpful little tome. If you love fine linen, new or antique, this is the place to learn how to care for your collectables, or to teach someone how!
Thanks Vicki. A lovely thought to think of others. All the comments suggest YOU just make our day!
What a thoughtful giveaway Vicki. So gorgeous. Thank you. Jx

What a beautiful idea – I’ll bet giving these away is almost as much fun as shopping for them was! Thanks for your generosity
What beautiful french night dresses . . . so lovely. I don’t know anything french that isn’t. I subscribed to French Essence and liked on FB.
What beautiful finds Vicki, and what a wonderful eye you have. How special are these vintage chemises, and what stories do they hold. Who made them, who gave them as a gift, who chose them for themselves and who wore them?. And so French Essence of you to see them and think to offer them as gifts. They are too beautiful and timeless to ever be discarded, and now they will have a new life breathed into them. Thankyou for your wonderful blog. I love reading the little snippets of your French Life.
Just recently found your blog. Subscribed to email updates and liked on FB. Adore the night dresses.
Just divine! What a lovely giveaway!
Vicki. I start my day with a latte in my favourite cup while checking emails and reading what you have been up to. (I have already subscribed) I love the skin care tips and the fashion updates. The brogues looked great but without socks wouldn’t blisters be a problem ? I guess socks with ankles showing is not a good look ! I love knowing what’s in fashion in Paris and seeing if we get anything similar in our Qld shops. I love chemises. They are so feminine especially when they are French. It’s so difficult to buy some things in rural Qld, Australia. The markets and garage sales are so different from Europe and even Sydney.
No blisters so far…
Absolutely gorgeous!
Vicki!
This is such a lovely gift to your readers! I have been a subscriber to the daily click for awhile. Your style has enriched my life and our home.

Already like you on FB and have just subscribed to your feed. You are one of my favourite blogs ever.
This is just the kind of thing that I LOVE….vintage lace….I have two blouses I purchased years ago made from vintage lace…..they are exquisite. I had saved a lovely piece that has embroidered butterflies and recently gifted it to a friend, she is having it made into a dress. Thank you for the daily inspiration. I adore your blog. I also recently gifted her a copy of your book “The French Life”…she will love it. I obtained the copy from the bookstore in Laguna Beach, California, Latitudes, which has now closed. Thank you so much for all of the posts and education about France and French living!! xoxoxox

How kind to offer these beautiful chemises! Have always loved lace, especially vintage lace and its romantic associations.
As a mother and nonna, would love to hear more about your family: how Paddy is doing now after his sudden illness and his iron man success and how your beautiful girls are going. Also Mr FF, it seems ages since we’ve heard news of him. Best wishes, Pamela

A vintage chemise AND laces and braids to play with?! What a wonderful give away Vicki – so very generous.
I don’t think I have ever seen a vintage French chemise, or a French chemise of any era, but I have had a little of their lace, and it’s lovely stuff.
I’m here every morning, looking forward to see and reading about your life in France and your take on what you experience.
Going to Provence in November, and would love to have one of your beautiful chemises. Will be in Isle sur la Sorge and will look for one at the market brocantes if I don’t win. Have read your blog before but just signed up. Merci!
I have been filling my little store here in Cambridge, Ontario with all sorts of goodies for the fall with the “Joie de Vivre” that the French naturally exude…..Love your blog and now I can love your Facebook page too! I will dream that maybe one of those chemises will make it’s way here – that’s my idea of a guilty pleasure – vintage linen and lace for the sweetest of dreams!
Vicki how wonderful a gift to give. Of course I would love to be entered for the lovely chemises…they would help me feel pretty after a year of this hip not healing!

Loving the chemises and the beautiful laces. They remind me of the beautiful finds I made in Provence. I still have the white broderie anglais pillow cases I found on a stall in Vaison La Romaine on sunny Tuesday morning. Thank you for sharing your finds with us.

ohhh Paris … how I dream of it! I heart your blog!
Vicki. I am in Paris right now. My husband and I are here to renew our vows where my parents were married during WWII. We got to see Normandy and a real French strike en rue! It’s all been so exciting. I must tell you as my husband an I were repeating our vows a gust of wind blew open the church door next to us and I truly felt the spirit of my parents with us. J’adore Paris et j’adore France ! I hope I win one but if I don’t I will continue to love and read you blog. A bientot
Linda
A piece, a stitch, memory of love and classics, whimsically vintage.
American living in Paris for about two months now and loving it….love your blog! I appreciate all of your beautiful observations. I look forward to each new post. Keep them coming!
Hi Vicki,
Love your blog, have your first book. It’s all so beautiful. . . and inspiring.
Best,

Ooooh my this prize is too good to be true….I am a self confessed Francofile, we visited last Christmas a wonderful adventure jam packed with all the ‘tourist’ things so sadly not too much time for ‘vintage browsing’ but now that the rest of my family “loves all things French” we will be back and our next visit WILL incorporate all the yummy stuff…market browsing here we come! Thanks for the opportunity to participate in such a great prize, hello from your old home town here on the northern beaches, I am an avid follower of your blog but will make it ‘official’ so I have the chance to win!
C’est Bon!!!
Love French Essence, Daily Click and all things French. Love to be the chemise winner! Thanks for generously sharing so much inspiration.
What a lovely giveaway. I envy you, going to the “brocantes” and flea markets every week-end in France! It doesn’t get better than that.
Vicki,
Thank you for this generous offer. I too am a big fan and read your blog faithfully. I appreciate the time it takes to keep the topics and photos coming. I especially like the photos of women on the street who exude such style.
Ooh, time to come out of hiding!…I’ve been reading your beautiful Blog for a couple of years now…all the way from the Blue Mountains (Sydney) in Australia. I am currently re-decorating the master bedroom to a more pared down look with lots of whites and neutrals…your chemises would fit right in, whether on the lady of the house or just hanging from a hook…
such gorgeous evocative images. One wonders what thoughts, daydreams, wishes were intertwined with threads & fabrics as the seamstresses made these garments. Makes me all daydreamy.
A vintage chemise would help!
So pretty. (I’m a subscriber!)
