Open Up Your Eyes…

I started cleaning out my make-up drawer… what a mess… but in the mix I re-discovered my eyelash curler…

What a find… the very best… I haven’t used one for years… What have I been doing?

My eyelashes looked so much thicker, my eyes brighter and more open… I promptly went out and bought a newer more super duper model…

These days, I am not a fan of lots of eye detail… a little liner, loads of the right mascara… and that’s it…

This addition…a little squeeze… and then another… makes me feel so much more put together…

If you, like me, have one hiding in the drawer… try it… you will see the difference immediately…

If not… you can find the best one HERE

    Une douce publication.

Oh I have never used these, EVER! I have flipped-up eyelashes anyway, so that works for me! But I agree that little to almost NO eye makeup these days suits me. I only wear a bold lipstick and with my pale skin and jet black hair, it works. One woman STOPPED ME COLD one day and said, “WHAT COLOR LIPSTICK ARE YOU WEARING! I MUST KNOW!” So my lips drew attention that day!!!!!

    Enjoy your day Vicki! Anita

    • Vicki says:

Perfect Anita… I love strong lips… especially with pale skin and dark hair… Actually I love strong lips with every colouring…:)

  3. SueBee says:

My girls use theirs all the time but i didn’t even think about it. I don’t do a lot eye stuff either but I might try it. Do you curl before or after putting on the mascara?

    • Vicki says:

I put the mascara on the top of the lashes… curl them and then put the underneath coat on… then another little quick curl… That is my system but I would be interested if others do it differently…

  4. pve says:

You always inspire us to such wonderful tips and now I shall be known as the girl with a curl!
Curled eyelashes….I do love giving my eyes a little extra TLC.

They do make a big difference.

Oh Vicki, You are so right! They are looking like instruments of torture, but are definitely the best for an radiant eye-look. xo S

  7. Bonjour Vicki. I laughed when I read your story: The first time I used an eye lash curler was in the United States, during my college year as an exchange student… My friends could not believe how quickly I managed to “pinch” my top eyelid. Even worse, my eyelashes got stuck in the infernal device, and nobody dared pull it off of me for at least 15 minutes. Courageously, I persevered, and I agree with you. An eyelash curler is a must have (but only if it is a good one and one is sober when using it! :-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  8. Pamela says:

ok vicki..i’m going to admit something. i’ve never used one! i’m sort of afraid to try using one! maybe i should give it a go? :)

  9. Couldn’t agree more Vicki – my eye lash curler is one of my favorite beauty tools! And do I spy a Frédéric Malle perfume on your dressing table? I’ve been devoted to his fragrances for a dozen years now and won’t leave the house without a little spritz. Happy Friday! XO

  10. Amy Kortuem says:

I just bought a new eyelash curler last week – not this fancy kind, but a new one nonetheless. Wow, what a difference!

I love the look of those perfume bottles – “beauty potions!”

  11. I love this post! Less is more I agree (at least at my age)…I had given up on the eylash curler…I am ordering a new one! Thanks for keeping us in line!

  12. Karena says:

Vicki I haven’t used one in years so it will be a new one for me! Anything to make me look brighter and more open!

  14. Fiona says:

    Vicki,

Thank you for the lash curler recommend..I have one that i use daily but “meh” its not the best. I’m ordering the Japonesque one today

    Fiona :)

  15. Kristen says:

Oh yes! I’m with you, I never leave my eyelashes without a bit of a curl. I use a drugstore Revlon curler, it works just fine. I think it may be the same one I’ve had since high school!

  16. Karen in CT says:

… it seems to me that curling one’s eyelashes must be learned young … it’s a tricky process to jump in mid-life … Shu Uemura was always considered the best, but yours looks interesting. Naomi Campbell says you don’t have to press hard, but I always do. Cheers to the weekend.

  17. margaret says:

Hi Vicki, I haven’t used one since a teenager. I think I spied one in my daughers make up bag, will give it a try today, less is definitely more in my mind re make up. Love your blogs.

  18. Millie says:

I’m embarrased to say, but I just discovered eyelash curlers this year. It may have taken me 56 years, but I’m so glad I did, they are da bomb! Yep you’re right about the less is more in the eye make-up dept. Thanks to your tip about the By Terry war paint, I’ve moved over to their mascara & love it. And I even took note of your advice about giving eyeliner on the bottom lids the flicko last year. What would I do without you – those chicks on the makeup counters at DJ’s aren’t a patch on you Vicki.
    Millie xx

  19. Rena says:

Thank you for that reminder, I forgot also to use my eyelash curler for many years and will try my best to get a glamorous look again. tinkle, jingle.
I also want to use the opportunity to thank you very much for taking time and answer each comment. This makes everybody feel welcome and accepted to say once’s piece.

  20. Rose says:

I stopped using mine a long time ago and I have no idea why. Perhaps I was just trying to cutback on one less thing to do in the morning.

I have three of them. I think I will wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to remove any bacteria and try it again. Thanks for the reminder.

  21. Slim Paley says:

How weird. I JUST started using my eyelash curler again after a multi-year sabbatical. I’ve also started putting mascara (albeit gingerly) on my bottom lashes again after discovering the oh-so-cheap but virtually smudge-proof Borghese mascara from COSTCO no less (2 in one pack)
At the other end of the spectrum, I am OBSESSED, as you know, with all things “By Terry”. It’s The Best!!

Sending best wishes from NY where we await “Sandy” :-(

  22. Marmel says:

I just bought one of these for my daughter for her birthday, we always used the Shu curler but of course harder to find now. I use mine everyday and I am due for a new one but I will see if she likes hers first, else I am going to have to hunt down a Shu Uemura again, so far that is my fav.

  23. Clare says:

I still use mine all the time. I’m pretty sure it used to be my Mum’s & I somehow ended up with it! Love a good eyelash curler.

    ~ Clare x

  24. PamMarie says:

Have never used a curler. I don’t know. I do love my black mascara, liner and red lipstick though. And a well groomed brow.

  25. Alexa says:

I swear by my eyelash curler !! my lashes just dont look the same without it ! (not sure what the long run effects are… hope i still have lashes left in the next 20 years.. ;)

ps. one to recommend is from shu uemura. or Mac.
