Beauty Therapy… An Ongoing Adventure

The more ‘beauty therapy’ we can do at home… the better… I know aestheticians might not agree with me altogether because there are only some special, deeper treatments that they can perform… Ideally we make time for a regular combination of the two, but sometimes this doesn’t or can’t happen…  Home skin care makes a huge difference… it saves time and expense… and besides it can become a routine, a ritual… and a pleasure… Time for ourselves is so important… it is not selfish… ‘me time’ means so much more quality time for those we love. A recharge of our batteries has an incredible effect on our work and our play… our energy is magnified and directed so much more positively and effectively.

The weekends are when I like to take ‘me’ time… Saturday or Sunday afternoon… My ritual involves the bath… somehow for me beauty and bathing go hand in hand… and also in winter… I am much more inclined for beauty during the colder months… there is something cosy and comforting about a bath and our potions… I fill the bath, add in the scented bath oil… plus a few extra drops of olive oil… that makes all the difference and leaves the skin feeling gloriously silky… I prefer a scented bath but often I find the products are harsh and drying on the skin… this little addition makes the water soft and the body even softer. I light a scented candle… Odalisque at the moment… pop my favourite novel by the bath in readiness for my long soak… and prep my face.

I cleanse a great deal… and I use a Clarisonic brush… these are everyday routines for me and I can’t go without them… ever… however tired I might be. I rotate treatments and creams, as the skin can become accustomed to the same products if we use them over a long period of time. I mentioned recently that I have started trying SkinCeuticals… the B5 mask in particular… this is wonderful and makes the skin feel refreshed and replenished… this one is all about hydration… If I want an instant pick me up for the evening… nothing is better than the SKII masks… they are nothing short of a miracle… After a thorough cleansing I apply one or other of the masks and ‘soak’ up the ambience.. That relaxing 20 minutes makes all the difference… my beauty version of the ‘power nap’.

Day to day routine needs to be quicker… As much as I would like to say that there is time for a multitude of complicated facial preparations… there just isn’t. Cleanse, splash, serum, moisturise, make-up and go… that’s my mantra… My second purchase from SkinCeuticals is the C E Ferulic serum.. I am often sceptical of anti-ageing miracles… but this is excellent and I can really see a difference in my skin… It is protective as well as an aid to better looking, smoother skin. Only a few drops are necessary… fast, easy and with benefits… Like all products… it is easy to overuse… a small amount is really all that is needed. This serum, because of it’s composition, should be clear in colour when purchased… and kept in the fridge after opening… I am enjoying these SkinCeuticals products and the occasional professional treatment… I know many of you already use the range and have recommended it to me… you are absolutely right… for me, it is fantastic… xv
