“Come Quickly I am Tasting The Stars”… Dom Perignon

Claridge's, London - Vicki Archer

If there is one universal cocktail or drink that spells Christmas for me… it must be Champagne… or sparkling wine… depending on the provenance…

I have always associated Christmas with champagne… it’s like the turkey with the stuffing or the plum pudding and the brandy… One can’t live without the other… they go hand in hand…

In London the place I tend to spoil myself with a glass of champagne… is Claridge’s… old school… old tradition… luxury, comfort and the feeling that the world has stopped many, many years ago… It’s a total indulgence to sit in The Foyer, with a bestie…  and watch the passing parade…. It is something I love to do in the lead up to Christmas… We catch up, toast the year that is almost passed… the good, the great and the indifferent and we toast to the one ahead… Girl time… it’s the best… especially if it’s an hour at Claridge’s…

When I think of champagne… apart from the icy cold bubbles tickling my nose… the first taste of that precious liquid teasing my throat and the light, happy almost giddy feel after a couple of sips… I think of all the celebrations that have gone before where we have toasted those special moments..

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a glass or two of champagne… the day wouldn’t be complete without a fizzy start… and a warm finish. Even the lead up to Christmas wouldn’t feel right without a few celebratory sips… Come December 1st… I admit, I start thinking champagne… there is just something about the holidays and fizz that I associate together.

I’m not the only one who has a love affair with champagne… let me leave you with a few words of wisdom…

“There comes a time in every woman’s life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne.”

Bette Davis

“In success you deserve it and in defeat, you need it.”

Winston Churchill

“I drink Champagne when I win, to celebrate…
And I drink Champagne when I lose, to console myself.”

Napoleon Bonaparte

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right.”

Mark Twain

“My only regret in life is that I did not drink more Champagne.”

John Maynard Keynes

“Champagne is the only wine that leaves a woman beautiful after drinking it.”

Madame de Pompadour

“I only drink champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad.
Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone.
When I have company I consider it obligatory.
I trifle with it if I’m not in a hurry and drink it when I am, otherwise I never touch the stuff unless I am thirsty.”

 Lily Bollinger

Today many of my blogging friends are writing about their preferred Christmas cocktail… you can read what they are dreaming of HERE

Do tell me your yours? xv

PS

If you like to add a touch of Elderflower syrup to the bubbles… that makes an extra special splash…
