Be Brilliant: Shine, Shine, Shine

How to shine? How to be brilliant?

Shining and being brilliant should not only be our holiday motto, but also a year round ambition.

It might be the time of year when life is wrapped in tinsel; it is also the end of another year when we reflect on what has passed, where we are and whether we are where we want to be.

How do we shine as women?

How can we reach those heights we would like to reach but consider out of reach? Women on the whole downplay their abilities, their “brilliance” and oftentimes don’t recognise the opportunities right in front of them. We are shy, we are prone to consider others before ourselves but by nature we are superbly capable.

5 Ways To Shine And Be Brilliant

1. Encouraging others will make us more aware of our own abilities.

There is nothing better than receiving a compliment, being congratulated on a job well done and feeling good about ourselves. Noticing others and offering praise comes around tenfold.

2. Follow your dreams; dreams do come true.

Imagine those dreams as a reality and take small steps to make them happen. Allow yourself the luxury of believing in yourself and believing those dreams will come true; never doubt until there is reason to reconsider. So many “dreams” fail before they even begin and how can we know whether an idea is going to become a success unless we try.

3. Set targets and promises to keep.

Planning is one thing but making something happen is another. Setting dates, creating real goals forces our hand and sometimes we do need a push. Only we can make our dreams live and a practical push never hurts. Don’t wait for the right time; the right time is sooner than later. Waiting until everything is perfect is sometimes an excuse to procrastinate. The more we achieve, the more we can achieve and the more we want to achieve. That saying, “ask a busy person…” is so true.

4. Be aware of the challenges.

Taking risks and starting something new requires a tough skin. Venturing out of the comfort zone is not always a popular place. Others can be critical and judgemental so standing our ground and having faith in our ideas is important. People resist change and by default they prefer to dismiss something non-familiar rather than embrace it.

Stand firm. Listen to advice but listen with an open mind; have confidence in yourself.

5. Progress takes time.

Allow time to achieve the goals you have set. Taking risk and facing a new future is not only rewarding but also exhausting. Replenish energy and enthusiasm on a regular basis doing what you love whith those that invigorate and encourage.

2016 should be our year to shine. I’m going to try, xv.
