Florals, Midis And This Year’s Gucci Madness

Floral Madness, the Gucci campaign on vickiarcher.com

What do you think of the florals and madness for Gucci this season?

Gucci has dominated the fashion scene with their vibrant colours, their floral fantasies and their energetic campaign. Everywhere I look I see Gucci and their amazing efforts.

I love it. I like the infectious feel of the designs, the riotous pairing of patterns and throw-caution-to-the-wind attitude towards what goes with what. It is as if creative director Alessandro Michele has brought his passion for excess to every design, both fashion and accessory. I do enjoy the difference and the lack of fear in this fashion; the flora, the fauna, the chinoiserie and the jewel colours are no doubt happy and joyous feeling.

The question to ask is would I invest in such a distinctive piece or multiple pieces?

After thinking I would want to wear every outfit in a perfect world, now time has passed and I have digested the collection, the answer is no. Not a major investment, anyway.

A pair of shoes yes, an entire outfit no.

As much as I admire distinction on the catwalk and on models, I don’t want it on my back. If every piece in my wardrobe was a “once in a lifetime” wear, then perhaps but as I consider fashion an investment and rate with a “cost per wear” head, it makes little sense for me.

Fabulous collections, like these from Gucci, are to be admired from afar and to use as inspiration.

Gucci has inspired me.

What has happened is my love of floral has widened. Floral and I have had a mixed relationship; I adore them but am frightened to wear them. When worn right, they can be magical; when not, floral can be the ultimate disaster. The Gucci collections have inspired me to add more embellishments to the way I dress, to flirt more with colour, textures and patterns.

I won’t be wearing head to toe floral and nor will I invest heavily price wise but I will wear a floral midi this summer with a simple tee and khaki jacket. Skirts have a way of making florals work. Is it because they are away from the face and give all the impact without any of the confusion?

Whatever the reason a floral midi skirt looks chic in the summer and I can only say thank you Gucci for getting me out of my comfort zone and into yours. xv
