“Where To” In Saint Rémy de Provence: #2

Where To In Saint Remy de Provence, vickiarcher.com

The most important “where to” in Saint Rémy de Provence is the most difficult to answer.

Where to eat? The question everyone wants to know other than, “where to stay”.

It doesn’t matter how familiar a place is, restaurants are a tough one to call. I don’t like recommending them because one night can be very different from another and we all have different tastes and requirements when it comes to eating out.

My list of local restaurants is by no means exclusive; there are some old favourites and some new crushes. I have chosen them not only for the food but also for the ambience and the decor. If you are staying at Le Petit Bijou or anywhere else in the centre of town, they are mostly within walking distance.

I enjoy eating out but when I am in Provence I love eating at home more so I have included my “where to shop” for food in this guide.

Provence is a cook’s dream. The produce is so fresh, so accessible and it makes even the most wary of cooks feel comfortable in the kitchen. I am not a great chef and even I can turn out meals for the multitudes and love every step of the way.

It’s a foodie’s paradise.

Good morning, Vicki! Oh dear, one day, one day I shall return to my beloved Provence. And Le Petit Bijou will have to be my first choice to try and make a reservation! It is so relaxed in this part of France and the décor, the food, the people….charming.

Hi, Vicki
What a great list of recommendations! A rather mundane question, Do these places take credit cards? I rarely carry cash anymore since one can purchase nearly everything by credit card in the US.

Vicki

Yes everywhere is taking cc’s now… even sometimes in the markets! Although bargaining is better with cash in the pocket ;)

Bonjour Vicki
When we were at Le Petit Bijou in January we had to try L’Aile ou la Cuisse as per your recmmendations. Without even looking at the menu we ordered the Chicken dish. To our disapointment as it was still early in the New Year they were out of stock, however we had the set menu and it was one of the best meals we had ever had, especially when we were escorted to the desert window to choose the picture perfect deserts on display , really special. Thank you. :)

Oh Vicki, I am always hungry, too! You are in paradise, then, with so much fresh selection. I really love your photos and suggestions. Please share one of your go-to meals that you create whilst in Provence. BTW, the cotton dress you posted in your “Edit” is absolutely gorgeous!

Any advise on what to pack to wear in July at St Remy?
For ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you.

Hi Vicki,
How easy is it to navigate with very limited French language skills?

Love your work, currently staying in Cabannes for another two weeks and have purchased your books in the past and followed your suggestions – had am amazing dinner for 11 at Les Chateau des Alpilles last week and just returned from Paris. We love the market and your tips! I’m from Sydney and in need of a colour and cut – can you recommend a hairdresser who will speak English if possible?

Vicki

Kylie… apparently the best one is in Avignon… beware of the villages… ! I have fallen into that trap… Tomorrow, I will email my friend who goes there and get the details for you… :)
