Her Point Of View: Claudia Schwarze

Her Point Of View, Claudia Schwarze on vickiarcher.com

I want to be Claudia for a day or maybe a year.

Claudia is the general manager of the Aman Venice hotel in the Palazzo Papadopoli in Venice.

Claudia is not only gorgeous but also warm, friendly and has that wonderful ability to make you feel relaxed and at home immediately. She has a wonderful eye for detail, which is evident as soon as you meet her and even though we are new friends, I feel as if we have known each other for the longest time.

I think Claudia has one of the best jobs in the world. Making an already exquisite environment a home for world travellers and living the life with them sounds like something I would love to try on. I may have left my run a little late but what is the harm in dreaming.

No doubt the life of a prestigious hotel manager is one of the most challenging careers but Claudia is far too generous to show that side or let that deter her.

Meet Claudia,

Claudia Schwarze, Venice, Italy 2016

How would you describe yourself?

Feisty, kind and hard working.

Tell us about your day-to-day life?

I run one of the most beautiful hotels in the world so its starts with a morning briefing of what is happening for the day; our guest arrivals and departures, special notes, projects etc. I then catch up both in the morning and evenings with all our guests. Throughout the day I have meetings with different members of my team related to planning and implementation of menus, press events, engineering, HR, accounting, housekeeping, food and beverage and of course need to reply to email.

I try to welcome incoming guests as much as I can and see them off and entertain. Once a week I take an early evening walk with the in the in-house guests so I can better connect and show them my Venice.

Are you the woman you imagined you would become?

My father had a bigger version of me than I had of myself as a teenager and I think I have become the women he saw in me.

He always taught me to rely on myself and earn my own money in a time where most of my friends were intent on getting married and starting families. At the time I started in hotels there were no female general managers of leading hotels and even today there are not that many of us …but this is changing.

What are the valuable life lessons you have all figured out?

‘When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.’ Happiness is a choice not a destination.

What do you like most about yourself? What do you like the least?

I am very intuitive and have the experience and ability to create new things and implement them.

I like least that I am sometimes not as expansive or loving as I would like to be .

What do you like most about getting older? What do you like the least?

Experience and not caring so much about what others think of me.

What I like the least is the hot flushes of menopause. Nobody thought this was going to be easy but this is ridiculous.

What’s your favourite way to dress? Do you have a signature style?

I am obsessed with clothes. I have a classic more demure style with a slight twist to it.

Do you have a beauty secret to share?

Susan Ciminelli products. Susan is a facialist from New York who comes to Venice as visiting practitioner. Her products are natural and give you the most amazing glow for which she is famous.

What’s on the bucket list?

Jackson Hole Wyoming as it is so different from my life here in Venice; the mountains and outdoor life, wildlife, cowboys and skiing.

If you could change one thing in the past, what would you do differently?

Stayed a kid longer.

What age do you feel right now?

35

Who would play you in a movie?

Diane Kruger
