Cargo Pants: One To Wear

Cargo Pants: One To Wear on vickiarcher.com

Cargo pants are a top casual solution for a pair of trousers.

When the jeans feel too tight, the black pants too boring and the skirt not right – pull out the cargo pants.

I wore the cargo style pants constantly for a few years, until I didn’t. A little bit like the black jeans, I forgot them and left them behind. From memory they were such a staple in my wardrobe until they tore through the knees and I never replaced them. Silly me, they are a winner.

This morning a reader asked for my help to choose between two styles of pants and my suggestion was these.

Why aren’t these in my wardrobe?  That’s what I thought as I scooted around online finding the pairs I thought would work well for her.

Next thought, I had better show you too. :) Today’s entry was not going to be about cargo pants but when I get something fixed in my mind, the rest flies out.

How do you wear your cargo pants?

Wear them with cashmere tees, sweaters and a pair of sneakers or trainers.

Try an oversized sweatshirt over the tee and pair with your mules.

Try a long man style shirt over the top, an anorak and a pair of flats.

Tailor up and add a pinstriped blazer over the top and a pair of pumps.

Winter days, pull out the 3/4 coats, a camel sweater and a pair of booties.

*Don’t be afraid to dress the cargo pant up with an embellished blouse or a decorative shoe.

The contrast between utilitarian style and the feminine really works.

I can’t wait to wear mine. xv

I, too had a pair of skinny cargo pants in olive khaki that I wore out in the knees. I didn’t actively look to replace them until I was shopping at Anthropologie and found a pair there in black. Somehow, Anthro always manages to sell pants that fit me well, even when other stores don’t. I guess the lesson here would be, if you find a brand or a store that always seems to fit you well, try their other pants on, too. You never know what indispensable item you may find.

I will add to the previous comment… If it fits well, flatters all ages and sizes, washes well and comes in a number of styles/colors, you may wish to check out Lisa Rinna cargo pants (Google that). You will be pleasantly surprised. Dress them up or down. Thanks Vicki for pointing us in that direction.

I love them, so comfortable and functional too. I like to pair them with a fitted black turtleneck and tall black boots… a little military, not too much, and the black and tan together cannot fail.
