The Big Reveal: The Swimsuit

The Big Reveal, The Swimsuit on vickiarcher.com

Yes, It is time, swimsuit time.

And it does feel like the big reveal.

The question is how much to reveal?

I err on the side of caution when it comes to swimwear. I admire the fancy, flimsy and fabulous on others but for elegance, flattery and style I stay plain. My bikini days are coming; that’s how I look at it. I have had them and with a great deal of work they may return; not this summer, but I never say never.

There are ways I like to gain attention. Who doesn’t like a little fuss made over them? When it comes to wearing a swimsuit I prefer diversionary tactics. Little tricks to compliment the body and build the self-confidence when feeling exposed go a long way.

From my point of view, there are 3 tricks to the right swimsuit and it seems to me it revolves around a few variables; get those right and happy days prevail.

3 Tricks To Finding The Perfect Swimsuit

  1. 1. The Fabric

The fabric needs to be strong enough to firm and hold with enough stretch for comfort and ease of movement. There is nothing more unflattering than a saggy swimsuit.

2. The Support

The design and style of the swimsuit can offer a great deal of support, which leads to a flattering shape. An under bust band works wonders as does any crossed fabric detail for the waistline.

How Low To Go

My rules are to go low in the back line and stay high with the neckline.

The cut of the legs is dependant on body shape; a more pear shaped figure looks better with a higher leg. Those blessed with slim legs and a more straight up and down shape can wear a lower leg and even a vintage style.

Trying swimsuits on is a stressful task.

We usually find ourselves in the confined space of the dressing room; a closeup in bad lighting at the end of a long cold sedentary winter doesn’t do anybody any favours. Frankly, doing this does nothing to elevate my mood. Now I am wiser and kinder to myself, I order online and try them on in comfort and a friendly environment.

If I find a style that works I usually buy more than one swimsuit. I stay with plain colours as patterns don’t do us too many favours when it comes to swimsuits. Patterns and colour in a caftan or long cover-up look marvellous; a swimsuit is tiny in size by comparison and patterns don’t work easily.

And I stick to my 3 little rules; fabric, support and cut. xv
