Can a pump yield a little power?
Like the “power suit” the pump is one of those shoes that can make us feel we are right on top of things.
I don’t know what it is about the style of the “pump’ but it is a shoe to give a rise in confidence. Silly how a certain something can make all the difference, change a mind-set and add poise. The pump is one of those kinds of shoes.
Adding a pair of pumps to an outfit, whether bravery allows for a 10cm or practicality dictates the 8cm, changes the way we not only walk but also how we feel in ourselves. This kind of shoe is the one to offer extra assertiveness, more self-assurance and extra aplomb.
Do I really think the pump can be so powerful?
Yes, I do.

The pump, like the ballet flat, is one style that has stayed current for the longest time. As much as I like wearing a flat, a ballet or a mule, nothing makes me feel as put together or as glamorous as a pair of mules. I love all styles of pumps and have embraced the block heel for comfort this season, but the classic pointed toe and spike heel of what I like to call the “old school” pump is still my go-to shoe when I need a lift.
As the years pass I find my style evolving but staying very much the same. Does that even make sense? Trends come and go, we adapt and wear those that work for us. I tend to find it is similar trends that find their way into my wardrobe and I comfortably adopt. The pump shoe has been an essential in my wardrobe ever since I can remember. And besides, I don’t even know when this started happening, but I like my toes closed in unless it’s beach time. It may be to do with living more in a metropolis these days; a closed in pump feels very secure.
I was a huge fan of Sex In the City and as soon as I could I bought myself the Hangisi pumps. They are still so current and look so fabulous with just about everything. When I am in a rush, they save the day. Whether it is the point, the heel or the fabulous colour, they make everything look better.
I have neglected the “pump” lately and I decided I really miss them. I need them. In some ways, they are the perfect shoes (for everything but hiking)
For some women, it is the only style of shoe they wear.
For me, I do like to mix it up which means some favourites can get left behind. These are far too good to be forgotten.
I know confidence is about our inner self and personal growth and I don’t want to be too light hearted but if you need a “lift” and a practical one, don’t look further than the pump. (Think best jeans, a great black turtleneck sweater and a pair of pumps; hello, ready to take on the world.)
If I could choose only one pump forever and numbers didn’t count in this world, it would always be a Manolo.
There is power, super power to be found in those talons, xv.
