Black Friday: The Rules of Engagement

Black Friday: Be Strategic on vickiarcher.com

What could be better than a long soak in a deliciously scented bath with an excellent book, Relaxing cocktail and an evocative soundtrack?

Except it’s Black Friday shopping bonanza and all the stores are wooing us with the promise of massive savings. My suggestion is to peruse the discounts from the comfort of home and let the online world do the work, leaving more time for that luxurious long bath.

Before I show you this year’s edit I want to remind us of our rules of engagement. These are most important because without good strategy a sale is not a good deal but an extravagant waste. We have all made blues when it comes to discount buys  –  I try to stick to my rules and my wardrobe is reaping the benefits and so is my wallet.

Be Strategic

* Look at only what you know you want.

*Buy as if the item is full price, meaning you would be prepared to pay full odds so that any reductions are truly genuine.

*Buy what you know works; save adventure for another day.

*Take advantage of the prices and replace the classics.

*Buy only if you need or love an item more than the one at home.

The Rules Of Engagement

* If a new item hasn’t been worn within 3 days it is unlikely to be; no excitement over something new in the first three days then euphoria is unlikely to strike.

*If 7 days are up and you haven’t worn it then it must be returned.

*After 14 days and there have been no outings, the newest purchase could be considered a mistake; hopefully, it can be sent back.

This sale time I am colour coding – I’m dividing my edit into camel, grey and black. Why?

Because I know we won’t be filled with regret afterwards. These pieces are all great buys and I would be very happy for any of them to compliment my existing wardrobe. xv

This is a great post, with the wisest suggestions. Typically, we don’t do Black Friday, and stay home to rest, reflect, create. But we are going out today and tackle the crowds, but more to just get out and walk. It is wise to look at what you need and what you’ve had your eyes on for a while, but the rest can just be left alone. It’s simply wonderful for me to have the time off to play!

Your advice today has hit home. I was in a dressing room yesterday with several pieces, many that fit me well and I liked, when I realized that I really needed nothing new and was shopping only because of the sales. I left it all. So, today I enjoyed a long walk in the woods and after I finish my coffee I’m going to write up my Christmas cards. After feeling distressed with my behaviour yesterday, I am feeling much better today.
I hope you are all able to snag that bargain on your desired purchase today.

I’ve been looking for a v neck black cashmere for a while; one with good reviews, not too long, stylish and a decent price. Looking at recommendations I liked the Halogen jumper but unfortunately shipping to the UK makes this not a good sale bargain. Has anyone got another recommendation in UK?
