The Can’t-Live-Without Khaki Jacket

It’s true, the khaki jacket is a wardrobe essential.

In my wardrobe, the khaki jacket has had pride of place for many years. We have talked about it before and I will go on singing its praises because come this time of year it is the first piece I reach for.

Why do I wear my khaki jackets so often?

Yes, there is more than one – I wear them in plain and in the camouflage prints. On different days I feel like wearing different styles.

You know how it is?

It goes over and with everything. A khaki jacket is great with black, with white and with the neutrals. I love it with red and even denim. It’s a win/win as a mixer.

For some reason a khaki jacket makes the very simple and classic look more up to date.

The khaki jacket is practical in most weather conditions. This style of jacket with multiple pockets is a perfect travelling companion. (Phone and glasses in my left; passport in my right pocket.)

Did I mention flattering? Especially those jacket styles that draw in at the waist and sit below the thighs. This is my little trick – gather more at the back of the jacket, above the spine and less in the front of the jacket for a more slimming line. Rather than a gather all the way through, create the fullness in sections. Game changer.

I was looking to update mine and found some beauties in the camouflage print. xv

Khaki does not work with my coloring; I’m strictly a cool color type of gal. But I do love the look in the picture. There is something about wearing a feminine, floaty dress with tough touches, like the jacket and boots, that really speaks to me. I love the inherent contradiction of it.

Like Mimi up above, I am also a “cool color” girl. However, Khaki does work on me, and back in the early 80s, I had nothing but Khaki! I really do need something in Khaki this year…

I wore mine the other day! I just updated mine this year with a great one from Madewell. They do go with everything and I will take your advice on the gathering in the back portion of the jacket… Another must have is a leather moto jacket.

I am not ashamed to admit that this made me happy. I am SO In Style ! I have this great light weight khaki jacket that I bought in Argentina and it is perfect for a cool day/evening and being super casual or making a skirt or dress look less serious :)

I’m with you on the subject of a khaki jacket as a go to garment. It seems to go with everything I wear. I pulled mine out a couple of days ago and noticed it was getting a little faded. Time for a new one. A sure sign that it is a favourite. 😉

I love my khaki jacket but I always felt that the fit wasn’t quite right. I love the hint about adjusting the fullness in the back. I am very small in the hips and thighs and until this tip I always felt like the jacket ballooned in thigh area. Thanks Vicki!
