Giveaway: Win A Stay In Saint Rémy de Provence

Giveaway: Win a stay at Saint Rémy de Provence on vickiarcher.com

A four-night stay at La Maison du Village?

La Maison du Village is a property I have been in love with forever. From my early days in Saint Rémy, La Maison, as we affectionately call it has been one of my favourites. We had the great fortune to make it ours last year and ever since then I have been prettying it up.

If you have been long time readers you may remember La Maison du Village from French Essence – a book chronicling my love affair with Provence. How serendipitous the one boutique hotel I chose to feature so many years ago should now be ours.

There will be ongoing changes and additions – that’s the way I am (an annoying perfectionist) – and I am sure I will move everything about and add and subtract for months to come, but we are open and long to get going.

To say thank you for being the most wonderful and loyal readers I would love to give you a chance to stay at La Maison du Village when you travel to Provence.

Here are the details:

Win a 4 Night Stay at our new La Maison du Village du Village in the centre of Saint Rémy de Provence.

The stay can be booked for any time before the end of 2019, depending on availability.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 24th May 2018.

Hi Vicki, I came across you quite by chance yesterday evening and couldn’t stop reading! Bonjour! I landed on your site French Essence by way of Une femme d’un certain age. (I love France, just about anything French: I teach French, Latin and Spanish in Middle school) I was watching Under the Tuscan Sun when it occured to me that I would love to stay in a villa just not in Italy, but in France. My son has autism and loves to travel, it’s one of the things we both love dearly so I started to think about doing it next year. And now I see your giveaway so I definitely want a chance. Thanks! Bonne chance a moi!

Hi Vicki. Congratulations on another venture with a lovely outcome. My husband and I visit Saint Rémy often and love it. We are Scottish, have lived in many parts of the Middle East and south east Asia, called Australia home for 12 years and now live in London (Richmond) but we have always loved France. I have tried to book Le Petit Bijou before and failed as it was booked solid! It would be such a pleasure to stay at La Maison du Village. Well done and wishing you every success with La Maison! I’m sure your ‘tweaking’ has been magical. X Claire

It was Monday, June 24, 1996 – I had just completed my first real dining experience at Cafe des Arts, 30 Bd Victor Hugo, Saint Remy. My dear friend had whisked me away for a week in Provence to ease the pain of my father’s passing. I thought I had gone to paradise, as well! Unfortunately, following that wonderful meal and a bit too much vin, I couldn’t find my way out of the traffic circle – and missed most of the lovely sights (we were staying in the small village of Graveson). It would be a real treat to go back … after all these years … not to mention a great way to celebrate my 60th! Thanks for your consideration!

I type this not because I expect to win (Lady Luck is a stranger to me : ) ), but because I have been a fan of your blog for awhile…. I read it daily. I share it with my girlfriends. I have tried some of the products you have recommended (and loved them!) And yet I have always hesitated to “add my two cents” and post a comment, even when I had thoughts to share. I admire your ability to re-focus our angst about aging: “better, not younger.” I love your fashion tips and gorgeous photographs. But I most appreciate that you share your sense of gratitude for your family, your career, your life and the opportunities presented. Like La Masinon Du Village. How wonderful that this important place in your life is now a part of you! And how fabulous of you to share with others…. Enjoy your new adventure! Best, Lisa

My late husband and I honeymooned in Paris at Christmas in 1973, and we always wanted to return to France once we retired. Sadly this was not to be. I would be thrilled to return to France, to Saint Remy de Provence, because of the loving memories my husband and I made, in Paris, at the very beginning of the best marriage to the best man I could ever have hoped to meet. We were married for an amazing 42 years.

Every Wednesday in Chicago, my friend and I would accompany each other to a movie at the cinema, followed by a chocolate crepe at our favorite french cafe with a side of either a coffee or a wine. Here we chat about life, love, and what is behind the red door in the painting above the fireplace next to us. Our date is the elderly man who owns the cafe, where we are taught about life lessons and past memories. The French culture has taught me so much about living a happy and meaningful life.

Hello Vicki-
I’m going through a big move and transition at this time as well and I completely get your storage story! It applies to my experience perfectly!

We are simplifying, giving away, repurposing, but hopefully NOT storing 20 years of accumulated furnishings, art, rugs, etc., etc. It is a ride through our family history- nostalgic as we remember where we found that carpet in Istanbul and the Venetian Fortuny Chandelier that took months to ship from Florence. Memory lane!

Your lovely Maison is an inspiration and we would be so delighted to enjoy a 4 day respite after our stressful selling of the big house and moving experience. Maybe we will be the lucky winner!

Good luck with this new endeavor. Much success to you.

My family and I visited St. Remy for the first time last summer and I fell in love with the village. It would be absolutely amazing to go again and stay in your lovely hotel. I have been following your blog for over a year and it inspired me to visit France last summer after many years. Many thanks to your blog for renewing my love of France. I lived in France as a young girl and my adult children wanted to see where my family lived for 4 years. This year we are going to Normandy, but I can’t imagine any place as beautiful as Provence.

Bonjour,
From this glance of just one room, I see that you’re true to the way we “know” you, through your blog. We see a love of silver (relating to tresses?), deep black and navy (always spot-on), some alabaster and natural (cool and calming). You’ve hit the mark in creating classic “with a twist!” That floor! That iron-scrolled gate! A dreamscape. Good luck, indeed, to all!!

In 2011 we were fortunate enough to travel from NZ to France for a family holiday. We were staying in a small town near Uzes but because of your wonderful books and stories insisted we spend a day in St Remy. Hi Vicki
I am from a small village of Mount Kembla in Australia, I have dreamed of going to Paris since I was in my first year of school. My dream finally came true on the 4th June 2016 my husband and myself traveled to Paris and after one week we picked up a car and drove out of Paris and just drove along back roads and stayed in little out of the way places. We ended up in Provence thanks to your book and stayed in a beautiful little home stay for a week with lovely hosts. I celebrated my 50th Birthday in Provence and our 30th wedding anniversary and I cannot wait to go back. I have both your books (well read) and always have admired your style.
I would love to have an excuse to have to travel back to France in 2019 and stay in your beautiful home, maybe my wish will come true again.

Would love to stay in this place. We are in the midst of booking our first trip to France later this year. I have been researching where to visit and stay in the countryside, trying to make the most of a very long held dream coming to fruition. I have looked long at Provence and Avignon/Saint Rémy de Provence due to reading France Essence a number of years ago – it was the beginning of my passion for France! After reading your book, I discovered your blog, listed in the bio. I had never heard of a blog at that stage. Yours was the first I followed in a long delightful process of discovering places and beauty connected through blogs all around the world. Now my husband and are finally coming, recently set loose in the empty nesters phase of life. This trip is really for me! France and England are the countries we are visiting…… we are from Melbourne Australia, which was another reason I was captivated by your book as it was very easy to imagine your journey.
We are planning to come down by train to Avignon and explore the area via hire car. A stay in your gorgeous place would be wonderful, beyond my dreams…. 🌳❤️💚

She lives in Cape Town and I live in Australia and I a trying to encourage to to start meeting me at various locations other than our respective Home towns – how I would love for her to visit La Maison du Village – she has rarely travelled out of South Africa – St Rémy would be the perfect spot for us to start our travel journeys that we hope to do for many years to come 😘

You and Janelle McCulloch and Heather Clawson kept me from the brink after the February 2011 Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand . I immediately moved to Auckland and started my life at 60 years of age again. I didn’t know where I would live or work . I lost all hope that I would ever have a home , dream again and ever travel again . Until the earthquake I had been too busy to follow bloggers . I am a reader, but had no concentration . So I longingly followed the three of you and you all fed different parts of my soul. I wrote and thanked Janelle and she replied with a long email giving me suggestions. Forgive me for never thanking you . I never thanked heather either! I have a love affair with the country you live in. I live in a tiny apartment I call Le Mouchoir de Poche. I have a little house on Waiheke Island I call Slightly Foxed , named after a bookshop in London and would love you to stay there as my guest if you ever came to this land . Serendipity has been at work for you and for me. So many grateful thanks for the part you have played in who I now am.

Bonjour!
Last summer me and my husband visited St Remy and it was a magic experience. In the evening we strolled along the narrow streets. We met a man. He looked happy and somehow enlighted. When we were back at our home in the city of Helsinki we read about the death of Peter Mayle. We looked at eachother and knew, he was the man with the enlighted face in St Remy. Our love for St Remy got a new, deeper meaning.

Your story on moving house and thinking the ‘old’ furniture resonates with me right now – we have just moved to a lovely new ‘Hamptons/modern farmhouse’ style home and I have no idea why I thought hanging on to the antique kauri pine furniture from our old 1917 California Bungalow would be a good idea to furnish the new house! Your story gives me courage to move it on and furnish the new home with items that will ‘dress” it appropriately, so thank you for that timely article! Thanks for the opportunity to go in the draw for the competition to stay at your lovely new hotel in St Remy. It truly looks divine!

Dear Vicki
Many years ago after drooling over my copy of French Essence, my husband and I flew to Paris frim Sydney, Australia, caught the TGV to Avignon, picked up a loan car and poor led our way through the lavender filled roadways on through a beautiful avenue of trees and there it was – St Remy! We parked our car near a shop of exquisitely presented glacé fruits and walked into the beautiful village. After standing in the doorway of Nostradamus’ home which we fell upon to my husband’s delight, La Madison du Village was the first hotel we espied. We went in. It was fully booked and we promised ourselves we would return to the hotel and this charming village. St Remy must be one of the jewels in Provence’s crown! Life has been challenging since then. Needless to say this opportunity would be a dream come true!
Congratulations on following your dream and sharing it so generously with your readers. It brings much joy!

Congratulations Vicki on another stunning property. Every girl’s dream of living in France. We are moving from South Africa to the Tarn in December, and a little short break to Provence sounds like it is just what the doctor would order to get rid of post-move stress (off which you have had a lot lately Vicki, so I’m sure you can relate). You have inspired me to make a life long dream come true by moving to France.

Once upon a time in St Rémy de Provence, aprés une bonne journée de visites a young couple entered the secluded candlelit courtyard of La Maison du Village. This was a special place with a beautiful old sandstone house towering on one side sheltered by tall stone walls on the other that receded courteously beneath the growth. The courtyard was carpeted in sand toned gravel which crunched gently underfoot and was surrounded by rich green foliage and pale purple hydrangeas. Provençal style garden furniture in mouse’s back with pretty pink cushions welcomed the happy couple to rest a while. A fountain trickled softly, the sound of water accompanied by that of French café music which filtered from within. The lady of the house misted the warm air with mimosa and soon arrived with champagne and canapés. Some moments after in the quiet of the courtyard of La Maison du Village in St Rémy de Provence, the young man upon blended knee proposed to the young woman. She joyfully accepted as tears and kisses were exchanged and they dreamed together of living happily ever after.

Desde que tuvimos a nuestro hijo los momentos de pareja son casi imposibles y esta sería una gran oportunidad para volver a reencontrarnos como pareja. Y que mejor lugar que en Saint Remy!!!
