I have a tradition when it comes to “what to wear” for the holidays.
Ever since I can remember this time of year has meant a new dress; a tradition started with my mother and passed on to my daughters. We love a new dress for Christmas and the three of us, with individual and unique styles, usually choose something very different.
This year we are spending our holidays in the British countryside and it will be our first English Christmas in the twenty years we have lived in Europe. Deserving of a new dress or two? I like to ensure a wardrobe change for our Christmas Eve dinner and the following day’s celebratory lunch; the rest of the days will be spent in casual gear. We are hopeful of a white Christmas, that would be a first, but either way, dresses will be packed.
What am I packing?
Most definitely an all-black number, maybe two, in case of indecision or over-indulgence. Comfort and glamour can go hand in hand so most likely this means a sweater dress in black to pair with booties or even hiking boots if a casual walk eventuates.
The second lbd I am considering is longer and more feminine in style, definitely not one for the hiking boots but an easy lounging option and the right one for an accessory or two. Thinking extravagant drops here.
Then what about a more fun option for the 25th?
I’ll pack the same shoes and booties to wear but add an animal print. What do you think? I love a leopard print dress and if there’s the right time to wear one, it must be the holidays. Mine is sleeveless so I will add an oversized shawl but I have also been drawn to this dress. Perhaps a last-minute “what she wants” gift from Santa?
Tomorrow will be a try-on and co-ordinate the accessories morning so if there is anything not working or missing I will have time to find it. Like these fishnets to wear with my booties; I forgot these. And so much more fun than plain tights.
This year is a new era for us with one small baby in tow and my emotions are scattering in all directions. It doesn’t mean I still don’t love a holiday dress. xv
