The French seem to be the experts when it comes to a dash of red… especially in the south. I came across this vignette as I browsed the morning market in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon… floral curtains, an enamel coffee pot, checked tea towels… the sweetest little jewellery drawers covered in toile… and red embroidered napkins. They were all arranged so beautifully for sale… the drum at the back just added that extra cachet.
This small village, across the Rhone from the old town of Avignon, holds a brocante in the car park most Saturday mornings… It had the best selection of collectibles I have seen for a long time… great furniture, lights, linens, china and glassware. Every weekend is different, with vendors changing constantly… and some weekends are bigger and brighter than others… but it is definitely worth a visit if you love a flea market like I do…xv
