It was a few years back and I was walking down the street with my two gorgeous daughters.
The passing male traffic did what they usually do with the exception of me. I was blanked. Not in a nasty hurtful way but in an invisible way as if I wasn’t there. I was a person no longer of visual interest. My girls took no notice, just as I once took no notice, this time I did.
I will admit it did throw me for a moment – the loss of a wink, a smile or the occasional wolf whistle – I had come of age. Shocking really! Nobody ever imagines they will become invisible to the opposite sex – partners aside of course. And yes, I am talking in generalisations here but undoubtedly when we reach a certain age there is a subtle shift.
You know what? It is the VERY BEST thing to happen to me.
I prefer to be behind the camera, always and forever.
Full stop. Say no more. Please let me take the photographs rather than feature in them.
Except when we are on holidays it is fun to have snaps of all the friends and the happy times. The last few days I have been celebrating a friend’s birthday in Italy and we have taken millions of photographs.
How can it be some shots are amazingly fabulous and others are downright awful? I mean, it is nothing to do with reality, I am far too old to expect miracles and yet a little photogenic kindness would not go astray.
Beauty is one of those extraordinary and intangible qualities.
We find beauty in the most obvious and the least likely ways and each of us interpret what we find beautiful very differently.
The joy of life is the search and the discovery of what we each consider, beauty.
For beauty is, ‘in the eye of the beholder’ and thankfully that is so otherwise life would be very black and white. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than watching how others interpret and never do we each see in the same way.
It is really a miracle.
As I think about the beauty secrets that aren’t those easily dispensed from a tube or those that require the hands of others I find my thoughts resting with those qualities to inspire and the attributes that help us grow as women.
