For The Love Of Lace

I’m A Lover of Lace.

The sun is out and the heat of summer is well and truly here. By this time of year, we’ve started a shift in our wardrobes in order to face the warmth; the knitwear is out and the lighter layers are in.

We’ve swapped the boots for mules and the jackets for kaftans, but the evening wear still remains amiss. It’s too warm for the full length, concealed styles yet too much exposure and it’s not quite our comfort zone.

Then we remember the lace dress and they tick every box.

The ideal length: a midi or a little below the knee to flatter the leg. The right amount of coverage: not too much on show, leaving more to the imagination. A delicate pattern boosts the sophistication appeal; lace is sumptuous, romantic and made for the evenings. Weather-resistant; not too hot and not too cold, the ultimate versatile piece for every season.

Lace dresses have always been a favourite; one is packed each and every holiday, and we’d feel lost without them. There’s never too much of the pattern – the more ornate the better, but the sparser designs are just as beautiful.

Lace Dress Style Notes

Pair a simple heel with a more ornate style of lace – too much detail in the shoe will make the outfit busy and draw attention away from the dress.

If going for a lighter shade, try a nude heel. This will keep the look soft and subtle.

A midi length with a bit of a flare works with a flat mule. It adds a casual touch without making it too relaxed.

Choose the right lingerie underneath –  go for a sympathetic colour to keep everything in check.

After years of trends and in-and-out garments, the lace dress has truly stood the test of time and investing in them has been one of our greatest success stories. It’s a pattern that never ages and doesn’t let us down.

When the evening calls, lace is the answer.

How I love lace! I have a fabulous lace coat, and a wonderful lace skirt, but now I am going to think about a lace dress. I saw a tempting one myself a few days back–somehow it was a more casual style, even though it was lace; the dress was not fitted, so I think that is what made it more of a daytime kind of wear. Still have that one on the brain. . .

I’m so with you on lace. I love it. It’s so stylish and feminine. I’ve just worn a lace dress at my son’s wedding and felt fab in it because of the way it hangs, the way it feels, the beautiful navy colour and the way it made me feel. I’ve also packed it to take to France with me later this week to wear for my own wedding anniversary. The gorgeous bride also had a touch of white lace in her wedding gown. Happy days all round!!
