Inspired by #23: Christian Dior

“You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion; a ‘little black frock’ is essential to a woman’s wardrobe.” Christian Dior

I agree wholeheartedly! Alas, I find myself temporarily without an LBD, but I know what I am looking for (fitted sheath, rounded neckline, sleeveless) and know that if I am patient, an affordable one will cross my path at a consignment shop sooner or later. It always does. This summer, however, my LBD is a Little White Dress. If you had told me that I would be wearing — and loving! — a white dress before I bought it, I would have sneered, “Yeah, right”. But it has the same plusses as an LBD: it is plain, not full of frou-frou, so it can be accessorized in many ways, dressed up or down. It is machine washable. It is highly flattering to my body and my coloring. It’s something for those who don’t wear black well to keep in mind: your LBD can be any neutral color. The main criteria is that it be versatile and flattering to you.

Oh do they do it, the French? How did and how do they still capture the spirit of style? Black is totally IT, the color that goes with any age (my mother always told me as a child that I was too young to wear it, but I loved it!) – to this day, I wear black even in the summer. Dior has it right.

Classic always, it is the matter of finding the most flattering style and fit, and you will have it forever.
