Le Petit Bijou… Moving In

Finally after what seems like forever Le Petit Bijou is taking shape…

I am slowly forgetting the time delays.. The lengthy wait for planning permission, the exhausting renovation process and the inevitable hiccoughs along the way.

The builders have all but finished.. A few little touch ups and last minute changes.. All in all Le Petit Bijou is ready for furnishing…

This is the part of the puzzle I love… When all the pieces come together and you can see the results of everybody’s hard work.

Le Petit Bijou - Vicki Archer

Le Petit Bijou has truly been a group effort …
My husband’s courage to buy the house in the first place… an unloved and uncared for little jewel in the best of locations… in the heart of the historic centre in Saint Rémy de Provence.
The architect’s vision and clever use of space… working with Hugues Bosc and his team is such a pleasure… They make the complicated easy and allow you to feel that nothing is impossible.

Christiane’s management skills have made Le Petit Bijou come together… and any of you who visit Saint Remy de Provence and stay at the house will experience her infectious and generous Provençal nature… I hope you ask her to cook her almost world famous ‘tomato tart’ … heavenly… A recipe that I have been trying to master for years…
Gérard, her husband and the manager of our farm, is my right hand and he will help me with all the finishing touches.. Hang the paintings and the mirrors.. re-arrange the furniture many times, all without complaint. He has a very good eye, manages to understand my ideas and instructions… and humours my need for the ‘perfect’ with such charming grace.

Not to mention my ability to scour endless markets in the hunt for the right piece… There are never too many brocantes for me… Creating this little home away from home and sourcing the pieces that will shape and define the character and ambience of Le Petit Bijou is where all the fun lies…

Le Petit Bijou - Vicki Archer

In the last few days we have started to move the furniture in…
Yesterday the ‘bibliotheque’ was delivered… last night I started playing around with the styling… I found the old painted skittles in Avignon… they now live on the third shelf…
This morning the table and chairs arrived… I am pleased with the vintage fabrics on the dining room seats… they were worth the wait and worth the hunt….
The bedroom chairs, upholstered in toile du jouy will be in place by this evening… so it’s on schedule… just…
I wanted to show you a peak… more to come… xv

if you would like more information on renting Le Petit Bijou please email me … vicki@vickiarcher.com

and for a little toile du jouyoscar de la renta has it covered…

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have arrived. VICKI this is marvelous, the furnishings and the textures, but the OUTSIDE of the home is so rugged and old, a dream for anyone who loves the history and time-worn beauty of France. I am so happy for you and if I am ever in France, I will definitely look up your accommodations, but I have a feeling Le Petit Bijou will always be NO VACANCY! That gray cabinet is perfect!!! Bisous, Anita

Speechless. I love every detail. Please keep them coming. Loving the Skittles. And here, I thought Skittles were just a sugary candy pellet that American kids love.

Reply
Vicki

Aren’t those painted skittles the most adorable… it was hard to let them leave my side… but they looked so sweet in the bibliotheque that I had to… :)

Hi Vicki I agree with Angie another book sure would be nice. Everything looks beautiful can’t wait for more photographs. I have been watching this British show called Restoration Home, I admire people who save old properties and lovingly restore them. One of the owners summed it up well …they are the custodians of these homes. The programme tends to find every bit of history on these properties it’s quite amazing. I know you are a wonderful custodian. I am sure you are going to have a wonderful weekend. Regards Esther from Sydney.

Thank you Esther.. it is certainly a labour of love… Another book would be fun, but then I would have less time to chat with all of you… and that is what I enjoy the most… :)

It’s so very lovely I want to hop on a plane and see it now. I adore the fabrics and the little glimpses so far. It’s an astonishing effort and it must make the town feel good knowing a beloved building is restored rather than razed.
I adore the exteriorr as well – congratulations Vicki.

I hope they do Hallie… they took their time… but I think the ‘Mairie’ is content now… :)

Hey Vicki
MOTH here. Just wondering if you & Davo would consider mates rates for an old Digger & the good lady wife, this petite place of yours looks pretty swisho. I’d be back in the good books big time with Millie if we lobbed here for a couple of weeks. And as you know I speak fluent French so would be right at home.
Thanks mate xx
P.S. Looks like Davo’s done a grouse job on your reno, hope he’s packed his painting duds away & has got his feet up with a beer. Good onya.

Wonderful! You are so inspiring! Have loved following Le Petit Bijou. I had a giggle when I saw you’re skittles. My gorgeous sister in law bought me a husband and wife pair to use as door stops -which we have- nearly 18 years ago from the Salamanca Markets in Hobart as a gift for our then new home. I loved them then ad still do! They even got a wash the other day! I would also love the tomato tart recipe. Thanks for continuing to brighten my days!
