Monday Morning… Provence

Nothing is ever half way done in Provence…

Provence - Vicki Archer

Especially the weather…

Freezing cold… Boiling hot…

And the storms… Last night we had thunder and lightning that would waken Rip Van Winkle from his deepest sleep.

Mad dashes outside at 2 in the morning to rescue cushions… impossible to sleep with the light and sound show blasting through the windows…

Now it is as if we imagined it… except for the glistening garden… the iridescent greens… the rain soaked walls of the farmhouse… and the scents… lavender and fig… so much more intense than normal…

The sun is starting to peep it’s head out of the clouds and the cicadas are warming up to their summer beat…

Provence, you have to love the drama…

What I like most after the rain, apart from that feeling of renewal and freshness… is that work stops at the farm… The daily routines change and there is time… time to enjoy, time to chat … and we do love a chat in Provence…

This morning I wandered around the farm with Gérard for an hour or more, admiring our olives, speculating on their growth and development for the coming season… Fingers crossed and all going well… they look good… actually, they look great… I dare not jinx this… so I won’t say too much… as a million little pesky ‘flies’ could well take them out in one foul swoop… But… so far, so good.

Le Petit Bijou - Vicki Archer

And even more exciting… Le Petit Bijou has it’s first guests…

I never thought the day would come… I can admit now that it was somewhat of a panic… the best laid plans always go astray and however well organised you are or how hard you plan… it all comes down to the wire… On Friday night I never imagined it could be ready in time for a Saturday arrival but together we made it happen…

There are still more paintings to hang and small details to finish… because I want it to be perfect and to feel like a home away from home… Photos are coming… I promise… Once it’s free and I have finished my decorating… you will be the first to see… Le Petit Bijou has come a long way…
