Platinum And Pearl, Lafayette 148 New York

PicMonkey Collage 2

Platinum and Pearl, what a brilliant combination.

I wasn’t imagining jewels as much as colours. The mix of creamy pearl shades alongside the softest hint of grey. Not really grey, nor silver but somewhere in the middle.

The lustre of the Royal tiara, with the protective cream silk ribbon and the sheen on those Courrèges boots had me searching for spring wardrobe inspiration.

After our 50 Shades of Grey discussion yesterday I thought about the question of changing hair colour and fashion.

The colours that I wear have morphed over time, I do wear more grey, more cream and that soft in-between shade of platinum. It’s a deviation away from the dark shades that I love but one that I am increasingly drawn to. Blame the change of hair colour? Maybe. It might also be that there is an elegance and a serenity to these shades. You wear them, rather than the other way around.

When I am wearing the platinum and the pearl I find that my make-up is all important. A strong brow, which goes without saying now that the hair is so much lighter and a strong lip.  Nude lips work best for me if I’m wearing darker shades.

With dark hair there is nothing better than a dark eye and a pale lip.

During the making of The Top Ten French Wardrobe Essentials, I relied on Lafayette 148 New York for many of my go-to pieces. Mid range, good quality and with an impeccable style, they work well for me.

Nordstrom have asked me to curate La Fayette 148 New York’s spring collection and it would seem that we are all dreaming platinum and pearl.

Lafayette 148 New York is one of those labels that I find easy to mix in with my other wardrobe favourites and while the pieces are quite classic they are so easy to change up.

I will be wearing my Stan Smith’s with the polly three button jacket and slim leg ankle pants. Come to think of it the slim leg ankle pants and the Stan Smith sneakers will be out to play all the time.

And the tees and blouses, they work.

The maisie leather blouse, a pair of boyfriends or skinnies and a good heel; easy dressing.

I missed the post on 50 Shades so I just read all of it. It’s a growing trend to embrace the grey and I think it’s beautiful. I’ve got a few strands coming in but that’s it. I have recently decided to color my hair only one shade lighter than my natural (in preparation for letting the grey come in one day soon) and let go of the blond highlights. Interestingly, I’m not crazy about how mousy it looks but hey, that’s my natural. Maybe I’ll get used to it. It changes which colors work on me as well. As you mention Vicki, now that you’re grey you’re wearing different colors. I love the soft greys and metallic you’re showing here. Grey isn’t best for my skin tone but I still love it. I’m tiring of black at the moment since it’s end of winter.

Dear Vicki,
We’ve just painted our livingroom a warm grey (revere pewter) and our kitchen, cream (feather down). You are right, there is an elegance and serenity to these colours together. As soon as I saw this outfit today, I knew I decided on the right colors!

I am late to this one, but enthusiastic about this color scheme, Vicki! OH THOSE BOOTS! I wear this color a lot and most of my jewelry is platinum (wedding rings) or platinum colored! This color is perfect with white for early spring, anytime!

Have a lovely day, Anita

Hi Vicki

I adore pearls, platinum and diamonds ( the royal jewels especially) ……and for clothes, and especially evening dresses, all the silvery shades of greys, any shade. It is so much more forgiving than black, you had me at hello !
Lovely choices and what a beautiful store, I had not heard of it before
Have a wonderful weekend
