Shimmer and Shine

Recently I bought a sequin vest from J. Crew… not as sparkly as this one pictured… but still with enough shine to add a little dazzle…

When I saw this photograph… I thought that is how I will wear mine… over a silk shirt and underneath a blazer…

The three rows of pearls just finished the look…

I might mix it up with a more elaborate necklace… wear the vest with jeans or even dress it up with black pants or a fuller skirt…

Not too much… just a dash of shimmer… xv

You can’t go wrong with just a touch of shimmer and sparkle and what a great way to wear it just peeping out from the jacket and layered over the silk shirt gives it a smart casual look. Those chunky pearls are the ‘icing on the cake.’

Aren’t they the best… I think ‘chunky’ is the key… and anything like that would look great…

That outfit photo above
looks so chic and perfect.
Can’t wait how you’ll layer yours
and if you say that you’ll add a statement necklace
I’m sure you’ll look fabulous.

Thanks Ann… The beauty of the vest is that it is smartening up some of my old favourites in the wardrobe… :)

sparkle and jeans! What a great, casual yet elegant, comfy look! I have had a shimmer silver shell for years. Should I bring it out and wear it again? Love this look! I found a vintage twisty three strand Monet bracelet at a consignment sale last year. Pulled it out and wore it last night to dinner with friends. Well worn skinny jeans, navy polka dot blouse and the pearls. It was a fun look and got compliments. Too often I forget about the old stuff in my closet. Always love your updates! xo

It is surprising what we can find in our closets… It might be time for a spring clean of mine… who knows what will turn up!

This is so classy looking! I love looking at all your “put together outfits”. I would have never put it over a silky blouse. It truly works great! Love it!

Isn’t it fun when your closet has all that you need to make a fun new outfit… I think we need to shop in our own closets more often… :)

Wonderful inspiration. Sequins are so fun, dressed down and out of context. I’ll be on the hunt.
Have a lovely weekend.

Wow! I have that gold sequin vest and never wore it because it’s slightly big on me. Well I just tried it on with a collared shirt and jacket and it looks great! My friend’s having a birthday dinner in the wine cellar of a restaurant this weekend, and I think this will be the perfect amount of sparkle for the occasion and dark location. Timely post, thanks!

Vicki,

I always love these but cannot ever figure out how to wear them without the scratchy parts bothering me! This is the perfect solution. Thanks for stopping by yesterday.. it is always nice to hear from you.

Best,
Christina

I bought a sparkle top with sequined sleeves like that and wore it during the holidays and many, I tell you many men commented on it, One said “My wife used to wear sparkly things” and another even asked where I bought it. I wonder if you took a poll, do ladies like them or men? or both?
Maybe everybody likes a little “bling.”

Very chic Vicki, you will look gorgeous! Any ideas about what to do with a couple of redundant wedding dresses that stare back at me everytime I open my wardrobe?

Absolutely adore that vest and I do like the sparkle. Fabulous idea to put it under a coat … love the play of the sparkle with the coat and that it can be dressed up or more casual! If you have time pop by my blog as I am having a celebration for my new blog look! Have a lovely weekend
best wishes

I have a tweed blazer sitting in the wardrobe doing nothing and hasn’t been worn for years. Now I can give it a facelift and get it out again. Love the ideas.

Vicki, a beautiful pairing. Thank you for sharing. Although in my area the time to wear this is past until Fall, it is already high 70 and humid.

Have a beautiful weekend, eluzabeth

I’ve put together that same outfit, except I placed a denim shirt underneath the gold sequin top (bought at Express), wore a grey blazer over the top with navy corduroy jeans. Very classic!
BTW..LOVE the blog. I’m constantly chasing my dreams of France..come see over on The Traveling Pear blog.

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!

I have two very shiny and very sequiny tops that I don’t wear because I feel they’re a bit short. But this is a GREAT way to wear them!
Thanks for this great tip on how to wear “bling” without overdoing it.
GENIUS!!! Wish I’d thought of it before because the tops have been sitting in my darn cupboard for what seems like forever! Thank God I didn’t have the guts to put them in the bag for the op-shop!
