Spend V Save: Not Always Chanel

Spend V's Save: We Can't Always Wear Chanel on vickiarcher.com

We can’t always wear Chanel.

As much as we might like to.

The Chanel pump and flat are some of the most classic, popular and wearable shoes. The originals and those styles copied around them pretty much go with anything.

Mostly look-alikes and copies need more thought; especially the poorly designed knock-off style of copy. Then sometimes something comes along that is reminiscent of a favourite, works in the same way but is neutral enough not to matter that it is not the real thing.

Like these.

We found these too late to include in the sale chat but they are far too good to miss out on.

I like the black sling back with the patent toe and the Chanel two-tone colouring is a staple to love. I also really like the embellished ballet flat in soft leather.  The thought of wearing both styles, as a change from the slip in mules, is where I am headed this party season.

When these won’t be the answer.

There are a couple of tricks when buying shoes fabricated in the softest leather.

*Use shoetrees and try not to wear them back-to-back every day. As much as I get crushes on a favourite pair, leaving them one day in two does make a difference.

*Before I wear them I have them re-heeled and soled and this makes not only more durable but also avoids the toe scuffing. Choose a non-slip coating.  Often less expensive (and very expensive) shoes have soles that barely walk to the corner and back. Doing this preserves the shoe and in the long run, they look so much better for longer.

Having to repurpose brand new shoes is annoying but I promise the small additional expense is so well worth it.

Gift yourself or your daughters; these are beauties. The only decision, one pair or two? xv

Good morning Vicki! I so remember these shoes in the 60s, and my stylish, tall and gorgeous aunt wore them with class. I always wanted to be just like her, dressing so stylishly. These pumps are the right fit for a simple black dress, white shirt and a simple pearl collier. Stunning.

A question for Vicki- can we wear tights with a sling back? I am looking for a super stylish shoe to wear with dress or smart trousers but think with a dress or skirt these 63 year old legs need tights- not in high summer but the other seasons definitely.

I wear an opaque tight, usually black with a slingback, Deb… or a sheerer black, but still quite dark.

There is a delicacy about the Chanel slingback that I don’t see in the VanEli shoe. I also dislike buckles on slingbacks as to me it breaks the line. Elasticized leather works better. At one time there were very good copies around. Ivanka Trump mercilessly copied the shoe for her now defunct line, as did Kaitlyn Pan.
