Getting dressed each day means so much choice.
Too much choice or not enough are equal disasters when it comes to the morning.
I want to get ready with the least amount of effort and in super quick time; I also want to make sure I look the best I can.
We all want that but it is easy to have those days where it all goes slightly wrong.
I don't think I ever leave the house with the idea to look less well presented than I should - a bad outfit day is never intentional and yet I have days where it goes pear-shaped.
Let's state the obvious today.
Investment dressing is what we need to consider.
Not every piece should be an investment because no wardrobe works with "all stars and no chorus line" but a 70/30 ratio is about right.
Keeping up with the "trends" can be exhausting.
I like to know what's on trend but not necessarily adopt it. Knowledge is the key and even more so when we know what works for us and what doesn't.
"Fashionable" can run the length of the spectrum and back around again.
Designers dream, thankfully, but not all of their creations are for everyday wear.
Midseason manoeuvres are challenging.
Not only the physical - finding the momentum to get ourselves out and about after a winter hiatus - but the dressing.
The whole 'what to wear' when we don't know what we are facing outside is one conundrum and the other is boredom.
By about now on the calendar, most of my clothing is feeling over worn and extremely tired. I call it midseason maudlin.
What's wrong with essentials?
Absolutely nothing.
Essentials in the wardrobe are not dull, don't have to be boring and are not there to define our signature style; they enhance it, make it happen.
I rely heavily on essentials and as I describe my style often as, "classic with a twist"; I think of my wardrobe as "essentials with a twist".
There is nothing wrong with the basics.
They are the lynchpin of life. Get the essential elements right and the rest will follow.
Especially when it comes to personal /signature style.
It's a minefield of information out there and everyone seems to know everything about style.
THE ONE ACCESSORY I NEVER LEAVE BEHIND.
What's to re-invent?
The little black dress must be the most popular standby outfit of all.
It definitely is in my wardrobe.
Black dresses never seem to be too many and neither do I tire of them.
What constantly surprises me is how I can fall in love with so many "different" black dresses.
Like the blazer, let's bring back the skirt.
There was a time when all I could dream about were mid-length skirts with full twirls; think Dirty Dancing meets Swan Lake.
Like a tutu but not any tutu - a skirt with a twirl to swirl and a shape to flatter.
I had one of these.
Blazers are forever.
Bring back the uniform.
Well, not exactly, but if we had a uniform how easy would it be to get dressed in the morning?
5 simple Style Rules that make all the difference.
They are not really style rules more like a small checklist to follow when it comes to the wardrobe.
Fashion is a tough one to keep up with, season after season and I find the older I get the less inclined I am to always follow suit.
I like to steal my style from each trend and work it accordingly.
The dress is a woman’s greatest asset.
Sometimes the wonder of the dress is forgotten in our rush to wear the pants.
Style means never wearing head to toe of any one label.
Obvious, yes. It can be easier said than done.
