Love this because the LBD has gotten me out of many wardrobe quandaries!! Always to my rescue:) A good black sheath dress is a staple and by far a worthwhile investment that never ever goes out of style, can easily be dressed up or down….its a lifelong friend!

I love that… a lifelong friend! The LBD (or LBDs) are most definitely that… :)

Gorgeous picks. Can you believe I don’t have LBD is my closet? I know, huh? It’s like wardrobe 101. I have lots of black skirts. I just took a job where the dress code is black. Ugh. I am a color girl. I feel that the older I get, black makes me look older. So, off I am for some casual little black dresses!!! xo

I don’t believe it! And an LBD will not make you look older Debby… that’s for sure…
Have fun browsing… :)

I have LBDs in dresses, jackets, trousers, and tops. Always have. Couldn’t make it through the week without one. However, my LBDs aren’t quite as ‘little’ as the dresses shown at the top photograph! Ah…to be young. And to have such long legs!

I am going to browse, Vicki! The little black dress is never out of style, and for les femmes d’un certain âge, all the better. I love your new format! Anita

I couldn’t do without mine either… and even though it could be said that a black dress is a black dress… never for me… they are all different in their own way.. :)

I love your picks for little black dresses! I so long to to go Paris someday…I’ve been to London twice, but have not made it to Paris! Would love to just sit at a sidewalk cafe table and people watch, as I am very intrigued with French style. I have read too though that as you age (I will be 55 next week!) that you shouldn’t wear black, especially next to your face…but I live in the Seattle area and I believe the climate is a lot like Paris where ladies do dress in black a lot, and they do here too, so am reluctant to entirely give up black, especially in the winter!

Never give up black Kelly… add a necklace or a new shade of lipstick.. :)

I recently got a tissueweight LBD by Louis Vuitton — sleeveless, with a deep v-neck and a ’20s flapper silhouette. Paid $75 for it, then another $30 for alterations. A socialite at my hair salon was having a sale of her worn-and-photographed-once designer garments. How could I resist?

I also have a sleeveless wool shift with a tiny ruffle at the hem and burnished buttons down the back. J.Crew.

And a summer cotton LBD … by Patagonia, of all things!

But the Louis Vuitton is my favorite.

What an amazing buy and stroke of good luck Marsi… all of your LBD’s sound gorgeous but the LV.. amazing…

I was thinking after I commented yesterday that I should have asked what inspired you regarding fashion while in Paris. Anything beside the color black?
I am a enormous fan of black everything. They are always my go to pieces. Especially the LBD, I just wore one I had not worn for a while to my daughters graduation, I added a beautiful vintage Donna Karen belt from one of her first collections. It was perfect. I do not have a LBD with sleeves, so that is my favorite one from your selection.

I think I was surprised that so much black or black and white was out and about… I am also amazed at the simplicity of styling in Paris… the elegance… even on the younger women… They somehow manage to look cool, be up to the minute but never ‘fashion’ victims… a true art…

The jewels just give it that bit of extra fabulousness… :) Then that is the beauty of Lanvin… :)

The LBD (or more than one!) is absolutely essential in my wardrobe. Always reliable and useful too when the dress code is not obvious. Your selection just shows the range out there and I must pop over to Net à Porter tout de suite ….. I may just find another LBD or two!

I can not live without my many little black dresses and I am afraid to say they make up the basis of both my summer and winter wardrobes. They are definitely my “go to” outfits when in doubt or I’m having a wardrobe melt-down. In fact, just morning when selecting my outfit for the day (which includes an important meeting)I found myself naturally going to a work style LBD with simple patent heels as I know no matter what it always works.
Thank you for bringing attention to what is a key classic which I am sure will never go out of style.

Hi Vicki; This was some delightful reading, fashion has always made me very happy. I started about one and one-half hours ago, went to Net-a-Porter and now am just returning to comment! That was huge fun, TFS.

Funny you should mention this Vicki. I pulled out one of my LBD’s yesterday, from a few years back and..ahem..it did not fit as I remembered. I like mine to have plenty of opportunity for accents. Jill Sanders would be the closest thing to it with a few nips and tucks at the seamstress. I have a mind for a silk LBD..something ‘blousy’. I am still working on the design..one of the perks of living in Vietnam. Only thing is..I need to travel to Paris to wear it. :) xx

The LBD has been and always will be a closet staple for me. Great tip on the sale at N-à-P. Just bought the Carven and eh, hem a few more pieces. Thanks for the lovely suggestions.

Love the Carven, Cathy… what else did you find?? Should we all be looking too… ;)

Bright blue Reed Krakoff tote – love it and price made the blue justifiable. Grey/blue James Perse ruched jersey dress – which if too short will go to my son’s gal. And a Helmut Lang draped jersey grey dress. DVF printed wrap dress. The sale is a good one. Here in US, Saks is having a good sale too. Haven’t looked at it on line as we have a little Saks here in Santa Barbara. Thanks again for the tip!

I’ve had my fantasy LBD in my head for ages, but haven’t come across it yet. 3/4 sleeves, a deepish v neckline (I like my throat and chest), waist definition, knee length, and a light all-seasons wool that will last. And under $300, ideally!
