The Turquoise Coast

Turkey - Vicki Archer

It’s right about now that I start becoming nostalgic for the sea.

I dream of swimming… that luscious feeling of infinity… the contrast of warmth, of sea salt on the skin and that refreshing feeling of cool as you duck and dive.

The winters in Europe lose their glamour come late January. The excitement of wearing the new winter fashion has worn, the festivities and fun of the holidays are long gone and the constant darkness can start to become oppressive.

I am fortunate that I enjoy the cold… for some, it’s a difficult time… but even so I still find myself looking back through my photographs of the past summer with a wistful eye.

In Turkey, a ring of Tiffany turquoise hugs the coast… the sea intensifies to sapphire as the Mediterranean deepens… the depth of colour compels action… to plunge in and swim forever. For an Australian it’s pure bliss… there are no nasties lurking deep below… no “jaws” to scare you away. Just miles and miles of crystal water for as far as the eye can see.

Turkey and I go way back… and I would say it’s one of my most loved holiday destinations in Europe. Not just for the sun and the sea but for the history… the incredible archaeology… the culture, the food and most of all for the generous and kind hearted people.

Turkey - Vicki Archer

Imagine sailing the seas in tranquil bliss and mooring in secluded coves.

To think about nothing more than what page to turn on your latest read… or when to dive overboard. Afternoons spent exploring local ruins… climbing the narrow pathways that hug the hillsides and sharing the tracks with an occasional wild goat. Ancient olive trees mark the landscape… gnarly and wise… they cling to the rocks as if their lives depended on it. The soft silvery shades of their foliage makes a stunning contrast with the jewel tones of the sea.

Sounds romantic… it is. Am I exaggerating? I don’t believe so. Sailing with friends on the Enderim A… A gulet style yacht that is spacious and supremely comfortable is without doubt the best and most memorable holiday.

If you are thinking of cruising the Turkish coast don’t hesitate to email me and I can give you more details about Enderim and Enderim A… and tell you the where to, how to and what to…  there is no better way to cruise those waters. Captain Hasan, his son Mustafa and crew make you feel like family and ensure that it is the holiday of a lifetime. vx
