I like to wear Chanel without wearing Chanel.
That is not to say I wouldn’t like to wear Chanel all day and every day but that’s not likely nor practical.
There is one Chanel style piece I have had my eye on for a long time; the “little” tweed jacket.
Actually if I could I would have a little black jacket but I have never found one I like or in fact I never see them in store. Chanel created many masterpieces but they are very complicated and not often close to the style I am looking for. I like the old style Chanel, the jackets that Coco made so famous at the beginning of her career. No disrespect Karl; you are a genius, but I want the one I want.
A shorter tweed jacket is one of those essentials that spark up the wardrobe; I am thinking grey or black tweed would work just fine and if I were less practical I would branch out and buy cream tweed.
Tweed works because of the texture and just adds that bit extra. When your wardrobe is largely monochrome texture becomes all-important.
Tweed is a winner and always has been.
Tweed can be seen as ‘old lady’; like everything in fashion it is how you wear it.
And there is nothing about the way we wear things that will ever be called, ‘old lady’. Right?
There is tweed country wear and that is not the tweed I am talking about here, which is not to say I don’t love that for the right occasion. The little tweed jacket is hot off the presses this season and is being worn with just about everything.
I want to wear mine with a pair of higher waisted jeans (more about those later) a longer style shirt and a pair of flats or ankle boots, depending on my mood.
I like the way Caroline de Maigret accessorises all the different tweeds, especially with the turtleneck. Many cute tweeds are collarless and the turtleneck top looks fantastic with this type of jacket. I wear mine longer and over my pants as I like that look; if you are tall and a skinny Minnie then I would tuck in all the way.
Apart from jeans for a more formal look I would add a plain fabric skirt or a simple sheath dress; elegant and beautiful for anywhere.
This season I am working on wearing Chanel without wearing Chanel; if you get my drift. xv
