Weekend Wardrobe: The Cable Knit

Weekend Wardbrobe: Cable Knit on vickiarcher.com

How do you walk the dog?

In your best coat, heels and faux wrap or prefer to play it down in sweats and a chunky sweater?

I am in the latter category and love nothing more than a cosy sweater and a comfy pair of pants to walk the weekend away. This year there has been a lot of walking and a lot of comfort dressing. Every now and then I have to remind myself there is a time and place for all pieces and it’s ok to feel good in a more relaxed mode. A little like mac and cheese; some nights you just need a generous helping.

Comfortable doesn’t have to mean dull.

There are an array of fabulous sweatshirts and sweaters to work with. What about the cable knit? Nothing says contentment and luxury to me like a cable knit sweater. I am not a knitter, but if I could, I would start here.

Our minds are gift centric, decoration overload and holiday planning right about now but we may as well be snug as we go. xv

Thank you Vicki for always uplifting that part of our being that matters a great deal: how we feel about ourselves.

Dressing and preparing ourselves for the day is of utmost important to help us put a smile on our face. From my red lipstick (that helps me conquer a classroom of children!) to a cozy sweater to relax in at home, I always feel like a much better version of myself. Thank you for always giving us new ideas. Hugs to you dear Vicki!

Our dressing is like a ritual isn’t it? If I make even the smallest effort then the day does feel better. The way I feel at the moment is all about the cosy but knowing me it will change and I’ll be dressing up again… I can’t wait for that momentum to strike :)

Again, commenting as a knitter, cables are just so fabulous–and most are surprisingly simple to knit. I adore them! If you could see my Ravelry page, you would see loads and loads of them. . .from simple to wildly complex. Ravelry.com is an amazing world-wide gathering place and resource for knitters and crocheters. It is free to join, and members set up their own pages of finished projects (including photos), a queue of things one wants to make, etc. Years ago, I used to co-moderate one the very largest interest groups on the site, together with two other American knitters and two British knitters. The 10,000 knitters in that group were on the more fashion-forward side. . . Honestly, I think anyone who is enamored of handknits could join and not post projects, just to see what is being made.

Amazing Linda!
I so admire your talent and those like you… such a wonderful skill to have. Enjoy your cables :)

I’m loving these cable knits Vicki especially the balloon sleeve and cream ones. So comfortable looking. I’m liking a berry red chunky knit I recently purchased too. Love a cosy jumper! Hope you are out and about soon – nothing like fresh air to make you feel brighter.

Dear Vicki – I do hope you recover soon. I was quite worried when I read you are sick. Thank you for being one of the highlights for me when it comes to escapism this year. Your Emporium gift shop is just the bees knees and I adore your blog and all you bring to it with your personal sense of style, humour and wisdom. Merry Christmas to all your family from a hot and sunny Queensland. Sami xx

Thank you so much Sami,
I’m getting much better and hopefully full of energy for Christmas :)

Oh no! You mentioned having a virus (in italics) in your intro that was in my inbox. I hope it isn’t Covid! Get well soon. Love your blog, suggestions, and photos. Speaking of the holiday season, there are divine gift sets of products, like Darphin for skin & Kerastase for hair. I purchased some for “me” as I needed a treat during these dreadful times. My best new find– Gucci Westman Atelier stick foundations. Coalescent with skin; don’t even come off on the mask.
