Nice and the Monday morning flea market and I don’t get together that often… not from a lack of desire on my part but more from a distance point of view.
Nice is about two and a half hours from Saint Rémy de Provence by car.
On Mondays, in the old town, there is a really fabulous flea market that runs all day. It has so many different vendors jammed into the square that it takes several hours to have a really thorough look. I am a bit of a scanner when it comes to a brocante so I tend to walk up and down the aisles multiple times if I am on the hunt for anything in particular.
One thing I did notice about the Nice flea market was that the stock was very different from my local markets here.
It was finer… less country. There were many more porcelains and glassware… loads of paintings, posters and some gorgeous crystal.
The linens were beautiful and there were some great vintage fabrics, bags and clothes… If you are a Louis Vuitton fan… the handbags and travel bags were in perfect state.
The designer costume jewellery was a serious temptation… and as I am writing this and thinking back on all the wonderful items I saw, I am somewhat regretful… yet, shopping is like that… you have to be in the mood, or it doesn’t work.
The best part of the Nice market was that I managed to meet up with Claudia Strasser from The Paris Apartment.
She was in Nice helping a client set up a new apartment… what a dream job for Claudia and how lucky was her client.
Claudia has exquisite taste and is an expert when it comes to French flea markets. I think if we could have talked all day and all night, we would not have run out of conversation… it’s like that when this love of all things French takes over… Claudia has a brilliant eye and had managed to find so many beautiful pieces for her client in only four days.
I fell in love with the heavy cream lace blouse in the photograph above… and the white lace jacket behind it.
Can you believe I didn’t bring these hand painted glasses home?
Imagine if they were filled with roses on the table… or sitting by the bed, for a glass of water… even stacked with bon bons to serve with coffee… They were so delicate and pretty… and in perfect state.
There will be other times… xv
