I walked into the kitchen and thought… an edit is in order, a make-over, a change of face.
Our kitchen has a large wooden table that runs the length of the room and it tends to be the place where I abandon all my bits and pieces.
I have had cottons and ribbons, cups and saucers sitting on the end of the table since the beginning of the year… it wasn’t that they didn’t look pretty… I needed to re-order a little.
So I did… and found… that despite my colourful mood… the white and the beige grabbed my attention.
The nougat I brought home from Saint Tropez… my new Plenty cookbook… a couple of bamboo candle holders that I picked up recently… and finally, I emptied the sugar cubes into glass jars.
Glass jars filled with anything… sweets, sugars, ribbons, laces, dried leaves, herbs… they are a true love of mine.
I have always followed the principal that lots of one thing is a great look… and I think the sugar, as well as being practical, looks fab.
I have also been given some of the most gloriously scented sachets you could ever imagine… from Mi – Septembre in Paris.
These divine little linen bags, so beautifully made, are fragrancing my world with clove, cinnamon and star anise.
One is from the classique collection and the other from the nacre.
I cannot begin to describe to you how luscious they smell.
The only difficult decision is where they should live.
Originally, I placed them on the table to spice up our kitchen… next they went into the linen drawers… and then I had to take them out and bring them to my desk, to savour as we chat.
Deep breath and sigh is all I can say.
Next the cupboards… I made a start… but this was a bigger job than a lazy day allowed for so I concentrated on the white… mixing the Astier de Villatte pieces, a vintage set of coffee cups from a long ago brocante and the Pillivuyt.
Do you enjoy re-editing your kitchen… or your home?
I can’t help myself… I am not sure if it is treatable or not… but I rather enjoy the maladie… xv
