Caftans are on my mind; if not now I will miss my moment.
I’ve been a fan of the caftan for as long as I can remember. Brilliantly, they don’t date and they wear well. Nothing much changes with the caftan other than a change of colour, pattern and design to add to our collection. Perhaps the length? Are you tempted to try a full-length or even a knee-length version?
They are the perfect cover-up but more than that they are another alternative for “what to wear”. I’ve been wearing mine with mules rather than the standard bare feet or stacked tie-up espadrille. The slicked-back wet hair has been superseded by a blow-dry but a decent slash of lipstick is still winning. The trick with caftans is to accessorize – to be brave and stay adventurous.
Wear the drop earrings, stack up the jingle-jangle bangles, or layer on different necklace lengths.
When is a caftan a dress or is a dress sometimes a caftan?
Who knows but my answer is if it works and you love it, then wear it well.
Wear it at home, wear it out and wear it often. I will. xv
