Athleisure: To Wear Or Not To Wear

new trend athleisure is a mix between athletic wear and leisure wear

Athleisure,

When I heard that term I was most curious.

Athleisure is all about wearing what you work out in, out.

Athleisure means stretching the comfort to last all day.

Exercise gear has become far more glamorous and everyday wear has become extremely relaxed.

Which makes me ask the question when do we dress athleisurely?

When does the athlete in us take over and the everyday become about the leisure? What if we aren’t the athletic types and our wardrobes are not kitted out with sports wear? Do we acquire the stretch and pretend?

I do love the conundrum of fashion.

So here is the thing. I am not convinced I want to wear sports style gear all the time, even if it is on trend and supremely comfortable. There is a time and a place.

I still believe that taking the time to dress well has big rewards. It may not be as comfortable as a pair of stretch pants and an oversized tee with a co-ordinating sweatshirt but dressing well boosts confidence and confidence means everything.

So far my athleisure adventure has been confined to the gym.

I cover up to and fro, only content to show the tail end of my leggings and my Nikes. The Nikes have become bolder and that is one part of this sport fashion revolution that I have embraced. There can never be enough colours, patterns or pairs of Nikes in my wardrobe.

I don’t think I will be making an “athleisure” fashion statement this season but there are a couple of athleisure pieces I will incorporate into my everyday wardrobe.

I wear trainers with boyfriends or capris, certain sweatshirt shapes look fabulous with skirts and sneakers and the occasional hooded top can look super cute layered with the jeans. I think the best way is to look at this the French way; mix and match the styles. Never wear one look from head to toe. Athleisure is no different. Take the best from the sports designers and incorporate a piece that works for our everyday.

That is about as far as I crossover.

My question is, do you like this trend towards sports fashion worn as everyday wear? Do you think going “comfortable” will make us lazier in our appearance? xv
