I’m A Lover of Lace.
This summer in particular I’ve gone extra over them.
Why?
With the ideal length, a midi or a little below the knee to flatter the leg, they are versatile and go anywhere.
They provide the right amount of coverage for me: not too much on show, leaving more to the imagination.
A delicate pattern boosts the sophisticated appeal; lace is sumptuous, romantic and makes me feel feminine. There’s never too much detail – the more ornate the better, but the sparser designs are just as beautiful.
Weather-resistant; not too hot and not too cold, the ultimate extravagant but practical piece for every season.
“When I don’t know what to wear, I wear black lace” – Carine Roitfeld
Lace Dress Style Notes
Pair a simple heel or flat, even a sneaker sometimes, with a more ornate style of lace – too much detail in the shoe will make the outfit busy and draw attention away from the dress.
If going for a lighter shade, try a nude shoe. This will keep the look soft and subtle.
A midi length with a bit of a flare works with a flat. It adds a casual touch without making it too relaxed.
Choose the right lingerie underneath – go for a sympathetic colour to keep everything in check.
This summer I have added to my “lace wardrobe” and it has been the best idea of all. Pick a colour any colour. xv
