Mykonos, Lunch At Scorpios: What Not To Pack

Mykonos wouldn’t be Mykonos without a lunch at Scorpios.

Scorpios is a boutique hotel, restaurant, bar and beach club rolled into one very Zen place.

We haven’t been to Mykonos for ten years and in many ways the island has changed and in others not so much. It is more sophisticated in design; the beach clubs and restaurants have grown and found their identity. The camouflage netting and bamboo details may have given way to beautifully designed interiors and yet the relaxed, easy and casual vibe is very much the feel.

Scorpios, on the southern part of the island, has uninterrupted views across the Aegean; heaven in itself. On a clear day you can see forever; every day was a clear day in Mykonos, clouds are a mere hint and a vague suggestion of existence. There is something about forever distance and shades of blue to mesmerise, relax and make you feel as if every care has disappeared. Forget therapy; get to the Greek islands.

I was happy to people watch at Scorpios and checklist the decor. Food comes in third with me when I am out and about; I’m not saying I don’t lap it up but I do love a serious decor and a good crowd.

Nevertheless the food was fabulous. Greek cuisine is limited and olive, feta cheese and squiggly calamari can become repetitive; they got it just right.

Island holidays are magical.

Time becomes irrelevant as the sun and the sea lull you away. Mykonos is an island where there can be a party every day or not; it is a case of choosing and following that lead. We did a little bit of both.

After all my words of wisdom re packing, did I heed my own advice? Maybe not.
