Do you ever take a second to vanish? I mean intellectually… A miniscule escape from the daily duty…. a moment to forget what has to be done and contemplate what you might like to do…
This morning I have had an exhausting mental workout… dreaming of trips to Bhutan, a safari in the Kalahari, a snorkel in the Maldives, a sejourn in Paris… I have pondered over an online business… I have dreamt of a new garden… and a fresh wardrobe… I have re-decorated an apartment… all in a few minutes… The flexibility of the mind is marvellous and our ability to hurdle from idea to idea in milli seconds is nothing short of miraculous… And then of course, reality sets in… and what has to be done replaces all those delicious thoughts…
The next few weeks are crazy for me… I think that is why I am playing the mental escape game… I am packing up a flat in London where we have lived on and off for ten years when we aren’t in France… a new stage of life and a new project beckons… exciting but challenging… and moving on… at least when in the throes of it… is always a trial…
I am finishing Le Petit Bijou in Saint Remy de Provence in the hope that it will be ready, set and go for this summer… Our olive farm requires much care and attention from this month on as a successful crop revolves around a healthy flowering and pollination… and of course my real true loves French Essence and My Daily Click… they consume my conscious thought at most times of the day…
This made me think about a handful of easy ‘treats’ that help me unwind… or on the flip side that help me to stay focused… That re-energise me… that make me feel de-cluttered mentally…
Walking… anywhere… city or country… just a stretch of the legs… and time for the mind to decompress…
Japanese Green Tea… It’s a strange taste… but a taste that I enjoy…
A long soak in the bath with my scented bubbles du jour… and the best, most amazing face mask of all…
Fiction… non complicated… easy… light… A few pages of non-thinking can reset the equilibrium…
A virtual shop… Knowing what’s about, what’s a la mode… fashion’s my passion…
Escapism… watching a well loved film or television series… getting caught up in the familiar…
Lighting a scented candle… that for me is a true tonic… Diptyque Jasmine is a serious mood enhancer…
Walking Drinking Bathing Beautifying Reading Shopping Watching Lighting
None of these are earth shattering, nothing revolutionary… but for me… they are the simple pleasures… small snippets that galvanise and motivate… Undemanding moments… Do you know what I mean? xv
