This new season is showing a length to love.
The skirt length is longer and the style pleated or fuller. Thank you trendsetters, wherever you are.
I see so many beautiful skirts missing those 6 crucial inches. I have never understood why designers make the most desirable and the most expensive pieces in a length for those who can wear them but ill afford them. At this stage and age and however fabulous our legs, a longer line looks elegant and more flattering.
This coming season, all is changing and hemlines are dropping.
Skirts with pleats and a little extra fullness; I can’t wait.
There is nothing I love more than the right skirt and blouse combination.
Skirts and blouses were once considered slightly dull or at best too conservative or old-fashioned. I believe, like all our fashion statements, it is in ‘the putting together’. It is about the pattern or shape of the skirt, the detail of the blouse and the type of accessories we combine. It’s where our earrings or bracelets dial up the look and the right sunglasses make all the difference.
Bring back the best bag of all time and any thought of “Miss Prim” disappears.
Why a length and skirt to love?
For most woman, a longer length skirt is the most flattering line of all. Streamlining with a shorter skirt is almost impossible unless you have a shape like Twiggy in the ’60s.
Will a skirt cut me in half, make me look shorter in the body? No, not if styled correctly.
The longer length, the pleats and the slight fullness offset the waist and if worn with a similar colour or simple top the problem is averted. When tucking in, too much fabric in a blouse is best avoided.
Dress the longer length skirt up or down. It’s versatile and a piece for all seasons.
Dress down; add a pair of trainers and a fine cashmere sweater. Dress up with heels or booties and a 3/4 length coat.
Did I mention comfort? Not to be boring but a longer-line skirt is a fast dress up and a comfortable one. Make sure the waist is not too tight – err on the larger side; the skirt will hang better and feel good all day long.
The pre-fall collections are in. Nordstrom, my go-to for all things beautiful, has an exquisite edit of the new collections. The longer length skirts are the dream and they may just be my everyday saviours this coming winter. Adaptable style choices mean everything for me and a great skirt can take me from work to play with no fuss.
That’s what I am after; a great look with minimum effort.
I want my choices to work for me and with me; these do. xv
