Everything and nothing has changed about Venice since Canaletto’s grand scenes of the canal.
If I close my mind to the overcrowding and the over focus on tourism… I can imagine a Venice of long ago.
Early in the morning as Venice lays sleeping… it is possible to capture the magic.
Looking towards Isola di S.Giorgio Maggiore.
The Gondoliers… the red and the blue.
The lapping sound of the sea… and the put-put of motor engines… a comforting drone in the background.
The light… I don’t know how it works but it has a magic to it that is like no other.
Palazzo after palazzo… timeless splendour… slowly decaying… in such sumptuous style.
Piazza San Marco… the heart and soul of Venice.
The Colonnade at the Doges Palace.
The Rialto.
and the grand view of the grand canal.
I have had a love affair with Venice forever… the beauty of the place is overwhelming… I want to soak it all up… store the magnificence away in my heart… and savour it all for when I am far away. xv
