Travelling to Provence… the market is a must.
Sometimes when you are so accustomed to something… it is easy to take it for granted.
I forget at times how wonderful the Provencal market is.
Markets are one of the distinguishing features of Provence… and even though sometimes I think to myself, enough is enough… It never is.
The truth is, they are unique.
The market in St Remy de Provence, my local, only gets better and better.
Yesterday… the stone fruits were the stars. Nectarines, peaches, apricots and cherries.
The melons… This area of Provence is famous for melons… Fragrant and totally delicious.
Sliced with a drizzle of olive oil, a scattering of fresh mint and a few slices of parma harm… Perfection.
The vegetables didn’t disappoint… The fresh garlic… simply beautiful and enough just to admire.
And the reds… the peppers, the radishes and the tomatoes… coming into their own
Even a little asparagus to tempt.
The Market Is A Must
If you happen to be in St Remy de Provence on a Wednesday… Here are my tips.
tapenade and olives, dried fruit and nuts in the main square just opposite the town hall… this stand sits in front of a blue tuck
honey… especially the lavender infused… directly behind
vegetables… in the square adjacent to the tapenades and next to the best roast chicken…
in front of the church for the strawberries, cherries and melons
take-away vietnamese for lunch on the corner of the church and the ring road… be warned, you will have to queue
flowers… see jean… on the ring road, down from the church on the left hand side…
soaps, linens and quilts… all the home-wares are in the main car park opposite the church
jewellery, hats and caftans… are in place favier just near le petit bijou
baskets… on the foot of the carpark next to the brocante and also on the church steps
