Is One Ever Enough?

bejewel, vicki archer,is one ever enough

Is one ever enough, when it comes to brooches and pins?

Years ago I would add a variety of brooches to a jacket. I would stick the lapels with as many pins as I could find. The only rule was that one was never enough, the beauty and the fun was about the multitude of sparkle and colour that adorned a plain jacket.

Brooches and pins are back in a big way and if you are as mad about the khaki anorak jackets as I am then we have the perfect place to play.

I am thinking go all the way with as much sparkle as any lapel can handle or be brave and let the flamingo pin have centre stage. The sapphire drop would give the denim jacket a whole new lease of life and the bumblebee is so adorable, he could pin himself anywhere.

The brooch is the piece of jewellery that can be over the top without feeling “too much”. Embellishing a jacket has nothing to do with age and everything to do with personality, creativity and exuberance.

And what about boutonnieres?

A flower pinned in with the brooch makes a pretty complement. Several flowers arranged together and a bouquet individualises the anorak. The fun with pinning is that it is all yours and no two jackets ever look the same.

Old Navy have a field jacket and a longer anorak that are ideal to dress up. These fabulous finds won’t set you back too much and you can design and re-design them with many pins over and over. That means you can save your better anorak for more elegant wear or the one bold brooch look.

What do you think? Will you be re-discovering the brooch this season? Will you bejewel and be bejewelled? xv
