I try and learn a new French word everyday, le puisatier.
This one, meaning, ‘well digger’ is not one of the more useful I have added to my list.
Yet it is in the title of one of the most charming and beautiful French films.
I didn’t know about this little gem until yesterday when my Instagram friends suggested it. How I love the instantaneous information and the way we can connect with people all over the world. As much as social media and our growing focus can drive me crazy at times, I do appreciate all I learn and see.
The movie is glorious. La Fille du Puisatier is based on the 1940 original written and directed by Marcel Pagnol. This 2012 version comes from Daniel Auteuil as his first directing credit.
Love him; love his film.
Of course I am biased, the film is set in Provence at the beginning of World war II. Provence, Daniel Auteuil and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey are the stars of the show; ok, let’s give Provence the gong, she looks truly magnificent.
The story is old-fashioned but enchanting and I can only say thank you for the recommendation.
If you haven’t watched it you are in for a beautiful sojourn. La Fille du Puisatier made my Sunday night. xv
