Loving Lace-Ups?

vintage lace ups, vicki archer

Lace-up boots and shoes are not a new idea.

I remember my first vinyl snakeskin printed white lace-up boots so clearly. Can you see them now?

I thought I was totally fabulous and could not believe my mother’s generosity and my great good fortune.

I was about 13 and all I dreamed of were these boots; I wish I had kept them.

Maybe I don’t. The white may not have aged so well.

I did truly love them and I can still feel that moment of pure joy when she said, yes and took me to try and buy. She was lovely like that, never judging my wild and crazy fashion choices; I think she knew it was a fruitless battle.

Who says fashion isn’t about emotion and memories.

So lace-up shoes are back and in a very big way.

Maybe not the white vinyl under the knee model that stole my teenage heart but flats and heels are making the rounds big time.

Every shoe I see and covet has some kind of lace-up treatment.

The Aquazzura Christy flats that twist and turn around the ankle have pretty much sold out all over. I understand why; they look wonderful and are superbly comfortable. It is like wearing a heel but without wearing one, all gain and no pain.

My most favourite heel of all time the Belgavia has the tie up ankle treatment and those shoes are back making an encore this season.

What I like most about a shoe with a little detail is that we can all wear them.

They make a classic style that suits a grown up woman appear more edgy and more modern. A little shoe sex appeal never hurt anyone and these lace-up styles do just that.

I will be in knots all winter long, xv.
