Lace is back.
Not that it was ever out.
At this time of the year it is hard to become motivated with what to wear. The summer styles feel slightly over and yet the autumn/winter looks are too heavy.
I have been searching for an addition to make my tired pants-and-tee-shirt-with-a-jacket look fresher and more on trend.
Lace is the answer and a blouse to be specific.
This coming season the mood is romantic when it comes to blouses.
Frills, bows, pin tucks and pleats add a feminine take to our classics. A detailed blouse and a pair of tailored pants with heels or even Oxfords are an easy mid-season approach. Add a leather jacket or 3/4 duster coat if you live in a city like London; you never know when the temperature will drop or the skies open up.
Two lace beauties have come to my attention and one perfect blouse with a tie neck.
The tie neck blouse looks fabulous when worn tied like a man’s necktie. The “Windsor” style knot can sit slightly below the collarbone. This is a really cute look worn with pinstriped trousers and the lace-ups.
The beauty of pairing the formal with the romantic is that each complements the other. Not too frilly, not too straight; just right. Overly detailed blouses with busy skirts or pants can look fussy. All tailored and we lose the sexy.
Mix and matching fashion is how it works best.
My feeling is that the ultimate blouse is the new “essential” for this season’s wardrobe. I’m making it mine, xv.
