Couturier du Rêve is more than a dream.
This exhibition is a celebration of the House of Dior and its 70th anniversary.
Every step in the Musée des Arts Decoratifs is a reminder of how truly great fashion can be. I was mesmerised from the moment I entered the exhibition and for a long time afterwards. The clothing and accessories are truly mind blowing and exquisite in so many ways. They are a tribute to the men and women who conceived and created them.
Walking through the cleverly curated rooms is a voyage of discovery.
The artistic display should be applauded and having the vision to hang such a magnificent collection is remarkable. I cannot imagine assembling such a body of work by Christian Dior and the talented couturiers that succeeded him.
Its other well-renowned faces, Saint Laurent, Bohan, Ferré, Galliano, Simons and most recently Maris Grazia Chiuri, represented the history of the House of Dior. Saint Laurent, Simons and Chiuri are my favourites after the master himself.
I don’t wish to show and tell all as I encourage you to visit, if a trip to Paris is on your horizon. The exhibition runs through until January next year. The lines are long so booking is essential but the wait is worthwhile.
Seeing this exhibition had me running to the Dior boutique with an abundance of dangerous enthusiasm. The dream continued inside and most of the season’s beauty took my breath away. Fortunately or unfortunately (whichever way you look at it) I left with only a very small purchase. It could have been an entirely different story if I had not managed to harness some self-control.
A Dior double breasted Bar jacket could have me dreaming all night.
Please put this one in your Parisian diaries. xv
