Leaving Provence and returning to London is often bittersweet.
I love both homes equally but saying goodbye to Provence is quite a wrench. A night out at Giffords Circus in Chiswick Gardens was the best tonic.
As we walked through the gardens towards the big top I had that feeling we were in for a big treat.
The scent of David Austin’s Gertrude Jekyll roses was intoxicating; the twilight soft and mellow. Children were rolling down grassy slopes and kicking balls, playing and having fun like children do; old fashioned, non-digital fun where their imaginations could run wild.
The circus is set up in a grassy enclave and is as quaint as you can believe. I won’t ruin the surprise and tell you too much about Giffords Circus, other than you must go if you have the opportunity. xv
